I respectfully disagree unless the chapter has an undergrad approved and with some kind of training in media relations. And by the way, most nationals have this policy.
If you are any kind of reporter, your copy will include, "the Tri-Lams referred us to their national organization who did not repond" or something like that. That's not the greatest, but it's fair. The reason that nationals have their policy is that, frankly, undergrads don't know how to deal with reporters, and are likely to say something that can be taken out of context. The policy comes after a number of problems -- and isn't really different from any major company, city, state or other government. That's why they have spokespersons.
Bottom line is that the only untrained person from any chapter who should talk to the media is the chapter advisor or someone from Nationals.
