I am in Toronto right now, which is the largest hostspot outside of Asia. 11 people have died here. My grandfather has been in the hospital for three weeks (not with SARS), but due to quarentine this weekend was the first i was able to visit him, and even now i have to go through a rigourous screening process before I can get in.

It's pretty scary shit

God Bless You!

This SARS is really scary. It reminds me of when AIDS first became known to the public but before they knew how it was transmitted. The news last night said that they were looking to quarantine people with or exposed to SARS.

They have indicated it is a lot sturdier than many known diseases-for instance, it can live on a surface though I don't know how long. More worrisome...it appears to be airborne so just BREATHING it makes it far more communicable than say MONO.

Consider this-You are on a plane that landed in Singapore then returned to LA. The previous guest had SARS but was unaware. Whatever Membrane or source of FLUID their hands came in contact with can be transmitted to the railing, the door knob, the call button...

It's now in Florida and we all know...SPRING BREAK...think of all the things people will touch or share oxygen with...THAT'S scary.

Here comes MOMMA! Be sure to wash your hands before-during and after any activity! BE DISCRIMINATING and ask to see their passport or drivers license! Think my son will listen???

edited to add-Nor in La...but we have West Nile and a serial killer.
Man you lucky!

I just got back from visiting my Grandad at the hospital. It appears that the Hospital he is staying in now has 2 reported cases of SARS. When me and my sister showed up, we were tol we weren't allowed to see him because "only the wife and sons were allowed in". I explained to them that I had flown in from Ottawa to visit him, my sister explained that she hadn't seen him in a month. Finally they let us in, one at a time, and only after we doned surgical masks and had our temperture taken, as well as filled out a form about our recent travels (ie have we gone to Hong Kong). It is really eerie walking around a Hospital that is normally busy, and having nobody around. It's scary really, how much this is affecting the daily routine around here. The death toll in Toronto is up to 13, with more than 230 cases being reported. I just hope a solution can be found soon.
