Now if I recall right, we couldn't have alcohol at ANY mixer...in the first place. So it was no big deal, those who really wanted to drink either drank before or after the mixer.

An event with a fraternity can make for good relations, something different and interesting to do, and exists without the potential dramarama of an alcohol-soaked event! Dry mixers are a good idea, and I would definitely attend one!

Well now, here's another point of view. I would attend a dry social event. Dinner? Great. BBQ? Perfect. Intermural sport, mini golf, bowling, roller skating, all good. But hiring a DJ and having a pary without alcohol will not attract as many people as a party that serves beer will. And although I have been to events like that put on by my own chapter, I am less likely to attend them.

We had to have one dry exchange per semester when I was in school and some of them were a lot of fun.

My favorite dry mixer when I was in school was at SAE. They had a big living room with a cool fireplace and they hired a guitarist and we brought in Starbucks hot cocoa and fun coffee drinks.

It kind of felt like an apres ski party & everyone had a blast.
