Too bad about the barnes and noble thing. they hav ehad the contract locked up here for years. And they suck. At least here theres a selection of 3 other off campus bookstores that are pretty good.
Where I started school, the B&N on-campus bookstore was it (small school / small town) and their prices were 85% higher because there was no competition. This was also before you could get texts on-line. I would go to SWT and get my books there and on average, save a few hundred dollars doing so.
To this DAY i will not spend a dime at a barnes and noble reatil outlet because of it. they are my corp I love to hate. Seriously, I'll schlep all over town to the Borders to avoid the evil b&n.

semi- off topic...
Lifesaver, I have to second ya on Barnes and Noble ( or Barnes and No-service, as I call them.) I swear they have the lamest staff (at ALL the Fort Worth area stores) of any bookstore I have ever seen. They do not know their stock, they have no inkling of customer service, they are just clueless. As a librarian, I am totally offended by their total lack of knowledge about the very things they are selling. Every time I go in there, I end up helping people find things they want. Sometimes I feel like I must have "Librarian" stamped on my forehead.
The people who work there don't know books; they just have a retail job. I would rather drive clear across town to go to Borders.
OK, off the soap box - and out!

at allegheny we have sodexho marriott... they are such assholes... the most annoying part is that the way the meal plans are set up you're paying about $7 per meal. they say that is because they offer a buffet style cafeteria where you can eat as much as you want so it's justified. however, the cafeteria that is open the most and is most accessible where the most people eat most of the time is set up fast food style - with prices for each part of the meal that are incredibly inflated, and low price limits for each meal - i'm not sure of the exact amounts but they're really really low compared to the $7 it's actually costing you to eat there (especially at breakfast it's like a $3 something limit) - they supposedly offer "meal deals" but they're really strict about substitutions like juice for pop b/c they have to pay more for that expensive orange juice than they do for the rot your teeth nasty tasting pop they have... and things like salad, fresh fruit, and fruit salad are overpriced and can't be substituted either -- you have to weigh your salad and fruit salad so a teensy bowl of heavy fruit salad can cost like $4! that's over half your meal and if you want juice instead of pop and a healthier sandwhich instead of a burger, it's gonna cost you way more than the $5.95 limit so you're screwed, and if you can't make the narrow buffet style cafeteria time spans because of classes, meetings, etc, then you don't really have much of a choice at all. grrrr f-ing marriott.

The decision is in...
The university chose Chartwells. I dont know how good its going to be but I am hopeful for the future. ANYTHING is better than ARAMARK. As a matter off fact, I really wanted to be there when the ARAMARK peeps were packign up their shit. I'd be singing some "nah nah, hey hey hey, GOOD-MF-BYE" & "Dont let the door hit you in the ass..." Phucking Aramark. I will always hate them with the white heat of a thousand suns.

My UG was serviced by Sodexho Marriott. The food was... least than stellar, shall I say. Of course, there were fast food places on and around campus, but people have meal plans because they don't have extra money to spend on food. With all the money that we pay for meal plans, there should at least be some good stuff there. Why should I still have to spend out of pocket if I have food that is paid for already?
