I quit cold turkey a couple of months ago. I was really sick the first week or so...bad cough, headache, just plain foul mood. After that I was good to go. I used to miss smoking when I drank and when I drove more out of habit than anything. I've gotten to the point now where even thinking about smoking makes my lungs hurt. I can't even stand the smell of them sometimes. I guess I just psyched myself out a little too much.

I don't smoke, but my boyfriend does and he's trying to quit because he's getting ready to apply for a job with the police and he wants to be in shape for training. He says he's slowly trying to lower the number of fegs he smokes each day, which isn't very many anyway (maybe 5, tops, but usually 2 or 3), but I've always heard that quitting cold turkey is the best way to go. What do you all think?

If you're trying to quit the best thing to do is discuss it with your doctor. There are a LOT of ways to do it and they will help you decide on what's best for you.

Get some Wellbutrin!
Anyone who is trying to quit should get a prescription for Wellbutrin. My husband who has been a heavy smoker for at least 10 years finally had success quitting when he used it. It has been great because usually when he has tried to quit he is so moody, but with the Wellbutrin he hasn't been. The only problem he has had is when we go out to a bar he usually ends up smoking 1 or 2 cigarettes. I'm am so glad he has quit.

Here's another random question for smokers:
I once was at a party where I smoked one too many cigarettes on top of my drinks...then I got sick. After that I couldn't smoke that type of cigarette. Has this happened to anyone?

There's a law in our state legislature that would make it illegal to smoke in ANY public place
