the history of stepping

To all NPHC Sororities, what year was your founders' step created? Are there any video links showing the founders' step? Do any other organizations have founders' steps?

I will be honest with you: I am a male of European background & Third Generation American so I guess I would be considered WHITE.

If I mistakenly offend you/anyone I apologize in advance I have no ill will toward any organization unless they make a mockery of what we fight so hard to accomplish as Greeks.

I have a few questions:

-I saw Stomp the Yard (I know it is just a movie) are the recruitment scenes accurate for Traditionally Black Universities. I saw the movie in the theatre and it made me proud to be a Greek. The portrayal of the internal struggles were things that we all go through during our Pledgship, Candidacy, Commitment period, etc... In addition is membership on larger campuses based on your ability to stomp. (By the way I like the story/history of the stomping and the rhythm which are created)?

-I attended a University in the California State system and it appeared that chapters such as the Omega Psi Phis, the Phi Beta Sigmas and Zeta Phi Beta came and went each year. It was strange but when I asked questions I found out that they were chartered locally (basically covering multiple schools) rather than individually at each campus. My question would be is this true or were the chapters on my campus merely colonies that failed and rose again in later years.

-I love to learn about Greek Life history as well as the history of Secret Societies. Is there a traditionally black version of Skull and Bones that has been rumoured or even confirmed?

Membership NEVER has anything to do with stepping abilities.

It depends on your specific campus -- yes, we do have city-wide, county-wide, or multiple campus chapters.

Not that I know of, but "The Boule" -- Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, Inc., is a prestigious black professional fraternity that some people on the outside make out to be like the Skulls, but it isn't.

Many members of the NPHC did not like or support "Stomp The Yard" for this very reason; it put stepping at the forefront of our existence and provided many with miseducation. While I love to step (and it's traditionally called stepping, not stomping), our organizations are not about that at all. Stepping is an art form that became popular among us in the 70's and 80's but it is not our foundation. We like to chant, sing, and step because it encourages unity among our sisters and brothers but it is not our purpose. The main tenets of the NPHC orgs are Sisterhood/Brotherhood, Scholarship, and Service. There are many members of our organizations that do not step at all and chapters that do not step at all. For more on the NPHC greeks or the "Divine Nine," read the book with the same name.

and i dont step...i'ma stroller!!!

but i must say one thing...Divine Nine book has a number of flaws/errors in it...but overall its a pretty good introduction into what is the National Pan-Hellenic Council.
