TKE has so many chapters, we can't know which PSU you're talking about.
Perhaps Penn State, Pittsburg St., Panama State, Polytechnic Southern, Pensacola State, etc.
And then we could start thinking about the dead chapters.
Actually, I have a bound volume of THE TEKE from those days - if I could find it, I'd look it up.

Is that place accredited??
At least in KS they don't call all of the small schools and ex-teachers colleges Univ of Kansas at Pittsburgh, etc.
I hate the way the former extension centers all around Indiana are now called Indiana Univ. at Richmond, and in some cases they have even combined with the hated rival Purdue to form Indiana Univ.-Purdue Univ. at Fort Wayne.
Wisconsin has done the same thing, with the Univ. of Wisc. at Stevens Point, etc.
PS: Are you a barbecue fan? I need your suggestion of the top three or four in KC, which I might hit during an upcoming weekend. Especially a good one near the airport, open late (9:30/10:00) on Fri. night.

TC's, re-naming, etc
I am a self-proclaimed higher-education institution authority; I did write my PhD dissertation on the topic.
Part of the so-called dumbing down came about due to the emergence of higher education in this sequence:
--the Latin, prep for ministry, Harvard/Yale schools
--the "Scientific" schools, followed by the
--normal schools (teachers' colleges), then
--aggie schools, 1863 ff due to Morrill Act, then
--streetcar colleges in bigger cities, then
--the junior college, high school extensions, then
--the trade school emerging, followed by
--outreach brought extension divisions of U's,
--then the "university without walls," internet diplomas...
These kinda combined, throw in business, trades, computers,
night schools, the fighting for a chunk of the state aid.
---and what do we get?
Do you realize that a big college in the 1850s had less than a
hundred students?
The big univesities, all now accredited from U of MN to CA Jr colleges to schools in shopping centers, now internet...
Why don't we just grant the doctorate at birth so we can get on
with things?
The college fraternity has pretty well gone along with the pattern,
and many campi with no housing, meeting in dorms, etc. A fer
piece from the cabin Phi Psi built deep in the woods in PA's Gettysburg 'way back when--the first fraternity house.
I can bore hell out of all of you regarding the emergence of higher ed today...and when you throw in the diverse ones and the jocks, well, it is a long ways from the ivy league Harvard of yore.
Get pissed, bleeding hearts, but we must embrace 'em all now.
I will be in KC area in May, perhaps we might get a few oldsters
to have a platter of nuts, buffalo wings, some brew, what have you. Hooters is owned by a Teke, y' know.
Perhaps this diatribe might be of interest to other Greeks.
May 2003 be the best year for our beloved institution ever....
'bout time. Happy Holiday and remember:
there is not a problem which cannot be cured by a damned good rush....Regards, Erik P Conard, KoA, CFC, PhD, flake
perhaps this'd go good on general Greek section, too....

Hoosier I am a proud offchute of that system and just because we arent in the big school doesnt mean that we arent as important. Especally taking I am a proud member of a chapter at Indiana University-Southeast. Takng soon I will be at Bloomington I hope to be able to meet you one day even though you dont live in Indiana any longer there are always homecomings.

Getting bigger
Big spread in the Atlanta newspaper today about the giant high schools in Atlanta's suburbs - including Collins Hill with 4200 kids.
The principal is quoted that he surely doesn't know every student's name - he doesn't even know the names of all the teachers.
Of course, the same thing is happening at most colleges.
