Sorry but if it wasn't 80s it shouldn't be in the list...Something that came out in 89 would make it more of a 90's thing than an 80's thing but the flashback was great!

-used to own a crimping iron

I was a child of the 80's and used to do this. I now teach high school, and my students are doing this again!!!! I show them pictures from my high school yearbook of everyone with crimped hair, and they freak out. They hate it that it isn't new, and that I actually approve of their fad.

I'm not sure about that? I started high school in 1989 and I had a friend who used to love Duck Tales when we were in Junior High, even though she knew she was too old for it....

And besides, MC Hammer, Ninja Turtles etc. yes it may have been early 90's, BUT we were teenagers by then, maybe even late teenagers- thus we were CHILDREN in the 80's. That's what I figured they meant by putting in some of those later things.

i was born in 1980 and basically grew up in the 80's. every time i see a 80's list i remember 90% of the stuff. i think it would have been cool as hell to he in high school in the mid 80's, and to be in college late 80's/early 90's.

I still have this Nintendo game!

> You got super-excited when it was Oregon Trail day in computer class at school
Or you can remember when floppy disks were actually floppy.

> You played the game "Mash" with friends at school
The kids at latchkey still play this. But I think the counselors taught it to them...

> You remember the beggining of New Kids on the Block
Or even more embarassing... you went to go see them in concert. Yes, I'm ashamed.

Talking Care Bear Stare!

The cartoon may be coming back. I've seen commercials for the bears on Nickelodian! Woo Hoo

I've never pondered why Smurfette was the only girl. I KNOW why she's the only one. She was created by Gargamel. She orginally had black hair but when she "changed to good" her hair turned blonde.

Not only did I have a crimping iron, but I had a crimped PERM.

Before that, I had a triangle perm - the rods were angular. It looked so cool, having zigzags all over! But boy, did that ruin my hair!!!

I remember the movie "Harry and the Hendersons." My younger sister and I watched that movie all of the time! It was great! We still have the movie somewhere.

ROTFL! We spent years trying to convince ASLFrose that he's not white! Even if we showed her an old picture labeled with his name, she'd insist that it wasn't the same guy.

Years later we found out that the whole time, BlazerCheer and Ballerina believed that he was black but had always thought he was a girl.

Tracy's Cool Eighties Experience...

A long spiral perm with poofy bangs that fell just so over my right eye. And the left side sprayed (frozen!) back with Spritz Forte.

Jeans (pinstriped or stonewashed or with a floral pattern) that were so tight around the ankles they were hard to pull on. I STILL practically have to force myself to buy flared pants

Beads, lots of 'em

High heeled pumps and ankle socks

Wearing 3 or 4 SwatchWatches at once, complete with Swatch Guards of course!

"Disco bags", small satin drawstring pouches with long cords that were used as purses.

Alligator Shirts

Side ponytails

My ultra-modern graphite tennis racquet (I think they carry them at Target now)

Sweatshirt dresses from Express; worn with big, dangly earrings also from Express

Guess jean jackets festooned with pins of every kind

Cutting off the legs of tights and using them as headbands

Black eyeliner. Lots of it.

"Bubble dresses"

"The Prairie Look" (sadly, I think it's making a comeback)

Mini skirts worn with ankle boots and slouch socks

Jansport backpacks

Freddy Kreuger

Flashdance (the first big movie filmed in my hometown of Pittsburgh. People who lived there were confused by some scenes in the movie..."why are they dancing in the Carnegie museum?" "Why did she take the Incline up Mt. Washington but end up on the South Side?" "How did she learn to weld at such a young age?")

"Forever" by Judy Blume. We thought it was SO racy! I re-read it a few months back and thought, "What a piece of crap!"

That's it for now

I know someone mentioned Thundercats somewhere in here?!!! Jeez I loved that show. So many of these things are coming back...they now have Care Bears out at the stores to buy, just like the old ones. I work at an afterschool program at a country club, and these kids have a PS2, PS1 and a Sega Genesis to play with. Guess which one sits untouched? Oh yeah, the Genesis, because they know if they try to play the counselors, we will kick their butts! They have no clue as to what it is, let alone what an Atari is!

I don't even know why they put other cartoons on TV... 80's cartoons were just better than anything they have these days.. Some of the animated violence type stuff like in GI-Joe would probably start a riot somewhere though with its use of guns.

Our toys were better also.. Look at some of these action figures they have these days.. I mean come on.. He-Man, Transformers, GI-Joe stuff, Voltron... It was so much better than Power Rangers.
