NinjaPoodle,
Thank you for posting this. I have signed the petition and have forwarded the information to my friends. You are certainly living the values of your esteemed sorority by making this action-provoking contribution to this board.
Thank you again,
violets

NinjaPoodle-Rock on! It's great that you brought this important issue to everyone's attention. Although I did not sign this particular petition, I started & sent my own for this woman this past March. Hopefully this time lapse means that her government is taking a second look at the case.

SigmaChiCuy,

I believe what NinjaPoodle (please correct me if I am wrong) is saying that this thread was created to drum up support for the petition....not to debate it.
Yes, HoneyKiss1794. Thank you

SigmaChiGuy,
sent you a pm

I'm not disagreeing with tkis being posted nor am I saying that violence against women is ok.

But to bring another perspective to the table, with all due respect to everyone that has signed this petition - this is not our country. It is not our culture nor is it our (American) way of life. These are some of the reasons that many people around the world despise the U.S. Some feel we try to police the world too much and other feel that we try to force our culture and values of our society onto others. But, you also do have others that feel we don't do enough at times.

What is it that makes American vaules just? What is it that makes Americans feel that we have the need to say this issue should be handled differenty? Is it because we wouldn't handle a case this way? Is it because we don't see it in our society? Is it because we are not used to this way of life? Well, it's not American justice, is it?

This is a sentence mandated by a court in another country. I'm sure it has happened before and I'm sure it will happen again.

I said what I needed to say.

If you feel you'd like to sign this petition, I'm not objecting to it, do what you feel is necessary.

D -- keep in mind that it was not just American women who signed this petition or similar ones, but Candians, various Europeans and many other countries as well.

I see what you mean, but I think there comes a point where certain issues transcend country borders. If somebody is outraged enough about something that happens in Cuba, China, or the Congo, it's perfectly within their right to try and do something about it.

However they do have to face the fact that their vote won't sway many opinions. If a Cuban tried to tell us that democracy was not the right way to run a country, would we listen?

I see what you mean, my apologies. I was thinking more along the lines of American society and the U.S. being the police of the world, but people from other countries have signed this as well.

And I agree it is someone's right to do something about it, I have nothing against that. I just tend to think that a lot of people sometimes forget that the world is home to many countries and many groups of people with even more cultural backgrounds.
