Another late recruitment school...
At Northwest Missouri State University we start recruitment parties tomorrow (well I guess it's technically now today )! I'm so excited! Today was the last day to sign up and Recruitment Tea. Yesterday there were about 210 signed up, and someone said today even more did at the last minute and we're up to around 230. We have 5 NPC sororites on campus, and Sigma Alpha is participating in formal recruitment for the first time. We're all kind of wondering how quota will work out since Sigma Alpha has to keep a 70% Ag major ratio...have any of you guys had Sigma Alpha participate in Panhellenic recruitment before? Other big changes here are that we're switching to no frills this year, and rush infractions are much stricter (they'll knock girls out of your quota...not kidding!). My good friend that's on Panhellenic Exec. is ready to pull her hair out because of all the changes! This will be my first time on "the other side" so it's going to be interesting!

I thought panhellenic rules state that quota shall not be lowered as a penalty for an infraction. Do campuses really still do this?
Just curious...

I thought the same thing, AXO_MOM, and we are both right! Whoo hoo, go us.
From the College Panhellenics Agreement:
7. Inappropriate Penalties
a. It is strongly recommended that penalties other than monetary be assessed. If fines are utilized for specified violations, such as late invitation lists, the fine should not exceed a previously determined amount established by vote of the Panhellenic Council.
b. It is a violation of the NPC UNANIMOUS AGREEMENTS for a College Panhellenic to lower a chapter's pledge quota as a rushing infraction penalty.
c. Delaying pledging or initiation infringes on the sovereignty of individual fraternities and may not be used as a rushing penalty.

Thanks AXO_MOM and everyone else...I'm looking forward to writing my thread as much as you're all looking forward to reading it! I just signed up for rush today and got the schedule...here it is:
Saturday, September 21:
PNM Convocation
Round 1, 3 houses
Sunday, Sept. 22:
Round 1 continues, 3 houses
Monday, Sept. 23:
Round 1 continues, 3 houses
Wednesday, Sept. 25:
PNMs fill out invitations (6 of 9 sororities)
PNM Philathropic Event
Thursday, Sept. 26:
PNMs pick up schedules for round 2
Round 2, 3 houses
Friday, Sept. 27:
Round 2, 3 houses
Saturday, Sept. 28:
PNMs fill out invitations (3 of 6 sororities)
Pick up schedule
Round 3 (prefs)
PNMs fill out Preference cards
Sunday, Sept. 29:
Bids go out at 5 pm!!!
Since rounds 1 and 2 are spread out over a few days, that means I'm gonna have to pick out a whole bunch of outfits! I do go to school in the northeast, but I hear that rush at my school is more competitive than what's normal for this part of the country. So I know that I'll at least be staying away from the jeans, but I don't want to get too dressed up and look like I'm trying too hard! So far the only outfit I've decided on is a knee-length denim pencil skirt, a brown leather fringe-y belt (this came with the skirt), a cream-colored top that's kind of ruffly with cap sleeves, and brown shoes with a low heel. I didn't really describe that too well, but does it sound okay to all of you?
Only 3 weeks and 1 day left!!

Your outfit sounds cute! Just wear what you're comfortable and feel good in. And be yourself...let your personality shine through and you'll be just fine. What school are you at and what organizations are on your campus?

A little update on the situation at Northwest Missouri State...
A little update on the situation at Northwest Missouri State...
I wasn't the only person who thought taking girls out of the pledge classes was fishy, and someone from another sorority found the exact rules that you posted. Panhell then said, "Yeah we knew we could never take girls out of your pledge class, we were just saying that to scare you all so hopefully there wouldn't be as many recruitment infractions." It makes me so mad that they flat out lied to us! grr! They even had it laid out how many girls they were going to take for certain infractions! I guess I do see their point in trying to scare us so people would be more careful, but I still don't like the dishonesty.
Also, the guesstimate of girls signed up on the last night was 230....actual number that signed though was.....
273!
It's one of the bigger recruitments we've had in a while, last year there were around 210 signed up on the first day and quota was 28 (if I rmember correctly). Yesterday was our first day of parties and my first time on the other side. I was completely exhausted! I'm a natural conversationalist so I thought it would be easy...not so much! Remembering names is SO hard! I can't even imagine what you girls at big schools feel like! They say as the week progresses every day gets eaiser and better...I hope so!

MelissaS,
There are great houses on the URI campus, I'm very certain you are going to have a good recruitment there.
September 21st will be here faster than you can imagine, I promise.
nwsigkap,
Ugh, being lied to even for a "good cause" is such an awful feeling. It just breeds resentment. I'm sure you will all rise above it, and thank goodness you won't make the same mistake when its your turn for a similar leadership postition.
Good luck!

Hey Tink,
Was your recruitment last week or does it begin this week. I don't recall seeing a thread about your recruitment. Hope all has gone or is going well.
