Thrillhouse, (and anyone else) I hope I didn't offend you with the EXTREME example of college life scenarios. I really was thinking in terms of my oun kids and their friends. Of course you can be very involved and have the greatest college experience without a Greek org.
It just makes it a lot easier when you have a social chair. lining things up and requirments to be involved in outside activities.
My daughter would have found involvement with or without her sorority. On the other hand, some of her friends (3 specifically) who didn't join really DO stay in their rooms, never go out and come home mid week to do LAUNDRY. My son is the type who hangs tight with his friends and is a weekend road warrior. He also has the highest aspirations of those in his circle. I think it would be better for him to develop ADDITIONAL friendships with those who have similar goals/study habits.
