In Baton Rouge, I always get carded. Drinking age is 21, and I'm 22. When I'm at home, a suburb, they never card for wine in the grocery store - its just not the same level of security I guess.

Once, my mom and someone from her work took me out to dinner at a restaurant here in Baton Rouge, I was 19 at the time. Well, the rule here is that you can drink in restaurants with a parent, provided you are over 18. So, my mom ordered me a glass of wine. Well, the waitress served the wine, and then a few minutes later came back and got an attitude about it - said that she had to remove one of the glasses of wine on the table! And THEN she said the manager required her to card everyone at the table - My mom was 51 and her friend was 43! Being carded by someone probably barely old enough to have their bar card.

21 is a stupid age. LA always had it at 18 until Congress threatened to take away federal hwy money if it wasn't raised to 21. Hmm...so much for that constitutional provision that allows states to set their own drinking age. It says nothing about the government being able to threaten that right with sanctions.

*gr* When will everyone realize that LA was founded with French and Spanish influences, and we just don't have that uptight Puritain way that influenced the original colonies, and eventually spread to the legal systems of the other states?!

I'm 26 and my husband is 24. Drinking age in Ohio and Michigan is 21. I rarely ever get carded. If they card me and not him I get pissed. One time I was screwing around with a waitress and asked her why she didn't card my husband and she said because he looked old enough...she was wearing one of those pins that say "We ID". She kind of laughed because she felt uneasy and I just looked at her and said, "I don't think your manager would think that is very funny." So she carded him and I told her that my husbands ID was fake. She didn't know if I was serious or joking. She ended up "taking a break" and another waitress finished serving our table.

I think it is hilarious when I go into a store and they card me. I had one store clerk who carded me, looked at my license, and then apologized for carding me.

At my wedding reception they wouldn't serve one of my bridesmaids (who was 23) because her ID was in her car. It was down pouring outside and she refused to go out to her car. They did however serve my brother who was 20 and his girlfriend who was 17. They were both so sh*tfaced I'm surprised they could actually walk up to the bar. Let's just say I went over to the Country Club the next day and had a few choice words with them.

I am 20 and when I go to buy cigarettes, they sometimes card me, but usually not. I have never tried to buy alcohol, other than when I have already entered a club/bar as 21, but I am sure I would get carded. They are really stict around here. I only have 6 months and 3 weeks to go!!

I'm 22... Getting carded depends on where I am. I get carded at liquor stores where they don't know me.. I rarely get carded at restaurants though... Underage drinking is a large portion of their income

I'm 23, and drinking age here is 21. I don't get carded for movie tickets, but I have gotten carded for cigarettes, alcohol, and lottery tickets (please ). Usually for alcohol, b/c I look like I'm 15. I once went to a bar after turning 21 and the guy who took my ID looked at it, looked at me, glared back at the ID, and then back at me-I was like, for the love of god, I'm old enough!! Finally, he tossed it back on the counter in front of me and said, "what do you want". I said, " a little less attitude" and walked off. Even though I usually don't care when I get carded, but the guy was such a jerk about it!

I don't get carded much - of course, I get carded to get into some clubs that demand ID from everyone. But I seem to get carded more often when I'm with my parents. As if I would lie about my age in front of them!

I don't like being carded, and it annoys me when people say, "You should be flattered they think you're younger." What is this youth obsession? Maybe when I'm 40 I'll want to look 35, but at 25, I want to look exactly my age. People card my mom, who is in her 50s, and there is no way she looks under 21. They do it to try and flatter her, and it just peeves her. (But on the other hand, her sister just loves it when people try that on her!)

One of my bro's had his dad come out with us for his 21st. His dad got carded, and wasn't even buying alcohol, only a cheeseburger! Also, another bro and his fiance were going to the movies, American Pie 2 I think, and they both got carded. he's 22 and she's 25.

I guess you can think of it as a good thing that you all still get carded. It means you still look young!
I got carded the other week for a Rated R movie. The guy looked at my ID and saw I was 21. He laughed and then apologized for checking my ID. My boyfriend thought it was the funniest thing. I certainly didn't.
But, I'll sometimes get carded for alcohol. If I go to a grocery store to buy alcohol, I'll get carded but I don't at restaurants. A couple of friends of mine who are waiters/waitresses say that's because many of the servers won't card because they don't want to end up losing their tips. But, at the same time, if they serve someone who is under they can lose their job!
I think a funnier story is one my dad tells to everyone. He was 30 years old and I was 3. He was at Publix which is a Florida grocery store chain. They checked his ID. He says that was the single greatest moment in his life....30 years old with a child and still getting carded for alcohol!

When I was growing up in Columbus, there was a 3.2 bar ("Low" beer only -- 18 years old in those days) on the Ohio State campus that carded everyone...period. If it was still there, I'll bet I'd get carded if I walked in today.

Also, Columbus had an 11:00 PM curfew for people under 18. One night during high school I was out with three of my friends after curfew, and we had stopped in front of one of the guys house to drop him off. The other three guys were 18 and I was still 17. I don't remember if we had been drinking or not, but anyway, this cop decided to check us out. He asked for ID's from the other three guys -- and then looked right at me, said OK, and walked away.

Lucky.

I just remembered something else. In those days, drivers licenses didn't have pictures on them. It wasn't uncommon on campuses to have to show your university ID, drivers license, and in the guys case, your draft card to get into a bar.

I get carded everywhere!

I'm (almost) 26.
We can't go to rated R movies without me getting asked for id.

Sidebar: When I was a senior in high school, I was the one they'd have buy because I looked 21. I guess that was my peak!

Kinda a funny story having to do with this:

This past weekend I went to an Alpha Phi date party at one of the toughest bars in town, this place called The Kells. For the date party it was 18+, so they were IDing everyone coming in (21+ got a bracelet and didnt' have to pay a cover). The bouncer looks at my real ID, and says "That sucks - only a week till 21, I really wish I could let you slide." Me, my date and a friend tried convincing the guy that, since it was a private party, and I'm so close ,to just let me get a bracelet, but it didn't work.

So I walk into the bar, and the first thing I see is one of our brothers, who is decidedly not 21, with a bracelet. I asked him about it, and turns out he showed his real ID (saying he is 20), and the bouncer misread it and gave him a bracelet.

I am 23 and get carded EVERYWHERE. Even for lottery tickets- dont you have to be 18 to buy tix? I think I look at least 18!!

I just the joined the choir at my church and one of the ladies asked me, "So, what you brought you to this city?" I explained that I just graduated, and she says, "Oh? From what HIGH SCHOOL!" So, yea, I look pretty young!

i'll be 24 in 2 weeks. i get carded when everyone gets carded. i never get singled out and neither do any of my friends.

i admit i get "insulted" some times...but i understand they're doing their job. they can get in big trouble. and let's admit it...how many of us can tell the difference between a 21, 22 and 23 year old? it's pretty hard

now movies...i have never had that problem. but i know that if i did, i would have some choice words to say to the kid and his manager.
