I wonder if in this instance, potentially insensitive is closer to the mark than offensive.

I think "Jail & Flail" would be way more insensitive.

Way more! But I wasn't clear—by "this instance," I meant the instance in the OP. Sorry.

City I guess where the intent when building it was to mix people of different races and socioeconomic backgrounds. They put mansions, moderately priced single family homes, and low income housing all not to far from each other. And then by having school systems set up by district you get everyone to mingle.

Basically my point is most people where I'm from wouldn't be offended by this if it took place at our school just because of how everyone grew up. It just depends on who you ask and what their take on things is.
Even "planned cities" (all cities are "planned" but I know what you mean) have these issues. The issues are just more hidden.

I know you weren't being snarky. I asked if you read this thread because whether people consider a "Jail and Bail" theme offensive will depend on the audience.

This thread is based on the foolish decision of white people to do a "Jail and Bail" fundraiser for a nonprofit that predominantly services disadvantaged racial and ethnic minorities (Reading is Fundamental***).

*** No pun intended

^ I see what you did there. Ha! Nice.

Like I said, I never really thought about it. I know you are saying the audience is important and RIF could be associated with poverty and marginalized populations but, I do not know enough about muscular dystrophy to recognize if in a situation like that this would be offensive. I actually see both sides of the coin on this one.

I would say mimicking jail and bail could potentially rub anyone the wrong way. The difference between thinking an event is stupid (just don't attend) and thinking it is offensive (cancel or change the event) tends to be whether there are larger implications.

Organizations should research prior to planning events:
