3 victims identified, 2 of which were shot outside the Alpha Phi house:

http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/isl...rority-n113951

Quote:
The first victim of the horrific shooting spree near the University of California, Santa Barbara, has been identified as 20-year-old Christopher Ross Michael-Martinez, an English major who planned to go to law school after graduation.

Martinez, who was at a deli at the time of the shooting and never made it to the hospital, was expected to finish college in three years with a high GPA and intended to spend a year in London.

Officials also identified two other people among the six killed Friday: Veronika E. Weiss, 19, and Katherine B. Cooper, 22, both shot outside the Alpha Phi sorority house near the UCSB campus.

The Blaze isn't my usual news source, but they pulled an excerpt from his manifesto in which he explained that he intended to target the Alpha Phi house.

Those poor students. His poor family.

(Don't read the comment sections unless you want to facepalm repeatedly.)

He hated pretty and popular women. Women who did not fit that description probably weren't on his radar. Which of course adds an additional level of asshole.

In the written manifesto, he fantasized about putting all women in concentration camps and starving them to death. He'd thought he would save a small percentage for "breeding."

That's what I'm saying. I don't think he viewed non-gorgeous women as women.

Not just bad taste. Dangerous. Psychiatric and law enforcement experts say it promotes copycats.

This shooting has many misogynist similarities to the École Polytechnique massacre (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%89c...nique_massacre) which happened in Montreal, Quebec in 1989.

The shooter hated women and blamed "feminists" for all of his problems and he also had a manifesto.

He entered an Engineering class, ordered all of the men to leave and then he shot all of them women (though some miraculously survived) and then he went on a rampage throughout the rest of the campus.

I find it so interesting that in most every mass shooting in the US people look to the parents and say "how could you not have known" and yet in this case, the parents actively sought help from police to have their own son committed so that he did not harm anyone. The police took this information, interviewed him and because he was polite and kind (psychopath 101) they considered him to not be a danger to himself or others. It all boils down to personal responsibility and the lack of mental heath awareness of our police forces and the general public. This young man was horribly disturbed IMO the SB Police have blood on their hands.

On another note about this and his video. I think HQ, actives and alum advisors should take this time to review and if necessary write policies in regard to sorority houses that might prevent what his initial plan had been, which was kill a house full of women. I think all too often sorority house doors are opened for people who might seem "familiar" but necessarily known to the girl who is answering the door. How common would it be for an active to open the door to a "regular" looking guy who says, I am here to pick up "Betty Sue Sorority Sister" and have the door swung open for him. The loss of these two beautiful Tri Delta women is tragic enough but add an entire chapter to that mix and it would be something the greek community has never had to deal with. I hate to think of treating sorority house like jails with gates and locks, but what is the cost if security is not at a level to stop someone like this?

This young man wanted to kill. The fact that he killed so few when his goal was so many is a bit of blessing. But it serves as a stern warning, that today's youth are either under self inflicted pressures or outside pressures and that mental health issues are on a rapid inclines across the nation. This is a mental health issue. His mental health, the viewpoint of mental illness how police should identify and deal with it, and the little say parents have of "adult" dependent children when they feel these adult children need help. Maybe these victims will not die in vain and real change can be made.

I'd like to have hope that things will change but it's very discouraging.

These good folks have been fighting for common sense changes in our mental health system and laws for a long time.

I wasted quite a bit of time today reading this "manifesto."

Key points:

Unlimited video gaming while at his mother's house (shared custody), up to eleven hours straight playing "World of Warcraft"

Shooter had social problems from a young age. But at least twice the father takes him on an extended summer break and he starts a new school two weeks into the semester.

Several times he recounts 'throwing a tantrum' to achieve desired results from parents.

And a question:

The document is pretty detailed about his life. However, he only mentions therapists and 'life coaches' during his time in Santa Barbara.

Mental health has been a hot topic at colleges.

The other 3 victims have been identified:

http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/isl...-spree-n114281

Quote:
The three victims who were stabbed in the apartment of the man who unleashed a rampage in the college town of Isla Vista, California, were identified by authorities Sunday, two days after the violent spree.

The victims were identified as Cheng Yuan Hong, 20, and George Chen, 19, both of San Jose, and Weihan Wang, 20, of Fremont.

Authorities said that Hong and Chen were listed as tenants at the apartment of 22-year-old Elliot Rodger, who was suspected of causing the rampage. It was unclear if Wang was a roommate, too. All three were students at the University of California Santa Barbara.
