Re lalucas's #3, remember that (per an earlier thread) chapters at IU DO use RFM. As hard as that is for chapters for whom quota is a fluid thing - imagine doing that PLUS knowing you have a fixed number of spots to fill. With that double pressure, of course it's going to be girls who already know members who are kept on the party lists.

Number 5.
First semester activities are crucial for any school with deferred recruitment. Being cute, smart and anonymous is not going to get you a participation trophy in competitive recruitments.

Hello ladies... with rush starting just next week and the PNM at home shopping for the "perfect" outfit.. maybe you experienced women can give them some tips for dressing, talking, or just staying upbeat during these crueling days. Like should they take notes on thier phones between houses? are they even allowed to carry thier phones? Do they stress over jewelry and makeup? any tips on standing out when everyone is dressed the same?

Also.. I have seen on other posts...stragegies for dealing with girls doing thier rankings... like how to be honest with your chances of getting in the "top- or most desired" sororities... that many girls at IU drop off ones in first rankings that they wish they had back when it comes down to the end... after the "popular-top" one drop them. I haven't really been thru it so if one of you can explain it better...please do.

Honestly? If your daughter is rushing as a second-semester senior, she really doesn't need to worry about this. The odds of her having a full schedule in the first invitational round are very slim.

Also how do you all think the cancelling of pre-recruitment activites will affect the process this year... my daughter is a senior now and I can attest that her sorority really did curtail those "exclusive- you have to know someone to get invited events" that were quite prevelant when she rushed years ago. i think it should help "level" the field.

"her sorority" I think Lalucas daughter is in a sorority, not rushing.

I don't think there is any way to REALLY be prepared for rush at IU. Just charge on, keep hydrated and get as much sleep as you can.

Though I believe you meant to type "grueling", the term "crueling" somehow seems to be somewhat apropos.

Do PNMs know how many 'beds' are open at each house? Does that factor into strategy? Are the sororities roughly equal in member total? In 2012 average chapter size was 156.
