The purpose of keeping the legacy house was that Grayson would be guaranteed a bid if she were invited to Pref. On Grayson's campus, bids were not guaranteed ,so this was a way for her to maximize her options.
Day 3
There was a max of 4 invites for today. Grayson's mother and sister were coming to the realization that Grayson was not going to continue the several generation's tradition of being a JENNA HAMILTON. They all discussed possible scenarios and came to the conclusion that Grayson should rank the JENNA HAMILTONs last. Grayson's father, himself GREEK, said "not so fast, didn't it take older sister a few visits to warm up to her chapter of JENNA HAMILTON?" The answer was yes. Grayson was made aware that if she ranked the JENNA HAMILTONs she would be potentially dropping the most sought after chapter for 2 less sought after ones. Her schedule for the day was:
JAKE
JENNA HAMILTON
MATTY
JAKE- She met officers here and fell more in love with this chapter. She told them she could see herself fitting in nicely. It was a mutual love fest.
JENNA HAMILTON- This was going to be the final chance in Grayson's mind for them to show her some connection. She spoke with a girl who had a cousin in JENNA HAMILTON. The girl told her that she initially did not see herself as a JENNA HAMILTON, but was thrilled now to be part of such a great chapter. The rest of the party went very well and Grayson was actually starting to warm to the idea of being in her legacy chapter.
MATTY- They were her favorite on Day 1 and she had always enjoyed her time here. However, the tent talk was horrible about MATTY. They also had a different physical structure than the other chapters. Grayson really wanted to live in the house at some point. This was weighing heavily on her decision.
Grayson was torn as what to do. JAKE was obviously her first choice, but who to list for #2? Her father told her never bet against a sure thing. Her mother told her that the JENNA HAMILTONS would most likely drop her, because if they invited her to Pref she would be guaranteed a bid. Her sister told her to rank MATTY last and then if the JENNA HAMILTONs dropped her MATTY would most likely move up into spot #2. Grayson' s main goal going into recruitment was to join a chapter. It did not matter to her which one. So in order to guarantee herself the greatest likelihood of receiving a bid, she maximized her options and ranked them as follows:
JAKE
JENNA HAMILTON
MATTY x

She secretly texted her mother. This was their conversation:
Grayson: I got JAKE and JENNA HAMILTON. So many girls are crying and I feel so bad for them.
Mom: I am glad you got the schedule you wanted. Go in with an open mind please!
Grayson: Reputation shouldn't matter right? Just where I feel I belong?
Mom: I just want you to be happy. Remember that although you love JAKE, for other girls it may be their second or last choice. It will be your job if you join to get them to see it the way you do. When you are at JENNA HAMILTON ask them why you are there other than being a legacy? Where do you fit in with their chapter? Go with your heart!
Grayson headed off to her two parties, which can only be described as " A Tale of Two Prefs." It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.......
JAKE- Grayson had decided not to wear black and when she showed up here they were all dressed in the same color as she was. Everyone was so happy to see Grayson. The ceremony was touching. There were many notes written with such personal messages that it made Grayson cry. So many notes, that she could not read them all. There was lots of hugging and by the end of the party Grayson knew in her heart that she as meant to be a JAKE.
JENNA HAMILTON- When her sister went to Pref at JENNA HAMILTON that was what sealed the deal, so she had great expectations. When she was picked up at the door, the girl said something to her like " oh you came back." YIKES There were notes, but they all said the same thing, " thanks for coming." there was no hugging and certainly no tears. Grayson asked her girl, why am I here, where do you see me in this chapter. The rusher freaked out and said " don't you want to be here" ? Grayson had to spend the rest of the party assuring the girl that she wanted to be there. During the ceremony the girls gave off a Stepford- wives vibe to Grayson. To some up the entire party in one word STRANGE.
On the way to ranking, she and other girls said they all hoped they got their first choice. She ranked them JAKE and JENNA HAMILTON.
The following is the text exchange between Grayson and her mother:
G: I just finished ranking JAKE first then JENNA HAMILTON. That is what felt right, no regrets.
Mom: They the JENNA HAMILTONs made their choice in how they treated you and you made yours.
G: everyday I was there it felt like they wished I would drop them already.

I am loving Grayson in this story. Even though she loved her non legacy house. She was ready to embrace the legacy chapter just because she wanted to be part of a sisterhood. Grayson, please come back and tell us what happened!

Grayson was not worried about getting "the call." She knew she had a bid to JENNA HAMILTON, but what about her first choice? Were they in love with her as much as she was with them? She went to the bid distribution, where she opened her bid to reveal................................
JAKE
She texted her mother and sister, both texted back that they were so happy for her. When her father heard the news he was surprised. Her brother was SHOCKED  , SHOCKED I tell you that Grayson had broken from family tradition. Grayson's mother promised to immediately go on line to shop for JAKE items. She replaced that stuffed symbol of JENNA HAMILTON with one for JAKE. She ordered a Vera Bradley lettered shirt for Grayson in the JAKE colors. Grayson's father even made a visit to a college store during a business trip to procure some JAKE items.
Grayson's mother had been saving an issue of her Alumnae magazine, showing pictures of several generations of JENNA HAMILTONs. She was hoping to submit her own. That magazine was recycled. Grayson's Great-Grandmother's pin and Grandmother's JENNA HAMILTON one of a kind bracelet that she had been saving for Grayson were safely tucked away for future generations.
Today, Grayson is just as much in love with her chapter as she was at Pref.
