It's a sad day when any chapter closes. You have my sympathy.

I am so sorry to hear this...
A few points...
1. My collegiate chapter was closed about five years after I graduated. I know how it hurts to see your chapter closed. I can only imagine how the current actives must be feeling. It goes without saying that to Alpha Gam's Alpha chapter members this is a devastating event.
The hearts of any Syracuse University Alpha Gams (and Alpha Gams in general) will hurt when they read this thread. I know of what I speak. I have read a similar thread on GC about my (now-closed) chapter and it hurts.
2. I am sure that Alpha Gamma Delta will do all in its power to bring the Syracuse chapter back and better than ever. As a member of a Syracuse Triad* sorority I feel sad in hearing of the loss of one of our "sister" organizations. Alpha Gamma Delta is a great group, filled with wonderful women and I am sure they'll be back on top at Syracuse in no time. Sometimes a re-group and re-organization, no matter how painful, is for the best. I know Alpha Gamma Delta would not close this chapter without great thought and consideration, and a plan for the future.
3. I support the right to post what you like. But why couldn't this have been done in a tasteful manner? The "only the strong survive" comment was, indeed, very nasty and inappropriate. I'd like to ask people to please consider the feelings of the readers before you post. Convey your information, but don't do so in a manner that will hurt others. Re-read your posts and ask yourself: "How would I feel if this were my fraternity/sorority?" It hurts to see information--sometimes faulty information--about your beloved sorority exposed to public comment (and, sometimes, ridicule).
* Note to those who don't know: The Syracuse Triad is composed of the three International sororities founded at Syracuse University: Alpha Phi (1872), Gamma Phi Beta (1874), and Alpha Gamma Delta (1904).

YES we are closing, I'm a current Alpha
Yes the alpha chapter is closing. We were told that that sunday's meeting with Suzzane Spicer (intrna'l pres), Nancy Knickerbocker( vp extension) were coming to discuss our upcoming formal recrutiment in the spring. This was the LAST thing on our minds. We are all devestated. Most of our alumnea are taking some sort of action, we have received lots of support. WE are closing due to low membership, we were pu on a new program for chapter membership. It is ideally a 3 year program but we were told most chapter are on it for longer. We were given this title in August, we were give 1/6 of the time of the "ideal" to get stuff done. WE were not given a chance. WE were given up on. WE (sisters) never gave up. And we still will not. If you can please write a letter, email or call headquaters. We appreciate all the support we can get.

I'm very sorry to hear about AGD's Alpha chapter closing. Good luck with the efforts to re-colonize. The Syracuse Triad will always live on no matter what.

The online Alpha Gams were here for us Chi Omegas, and I'm sure I can speak on behalf of all Chi Omegas that we'll be there for you too!
With sisterly love,

this both sucks and blows.
To the AGD's at Syracuse, and to all AGD's everywhere, you have my deepest sympathy and concern.
Our Alpha Alpha chapter (one of our reorganizational chapters, comparable to being an Alpha chapter) is currently closed, and it really is depressing, so I know how you feel. I wish for all our groups that we could get through one year without seeing a chapter closed.
I hope that your IHQ will change their minds and see fit to do an expansion rush, or some other action, other than shutter the Alpha chapter, especially so close to your centennial. Hang in there ladies, keep your chins up and always be proud of your sisterhood.

To my Alpha chapter sisters and sisters everywhere: It breaks my heart to know that the chapter is closing!! Anything you need, I'll be there in a heartbeat (well, 7 hours I think it takes to get me there ) I love all of you and our LIEP will keep us united!! While is wonderful to have the conection to our history as to have our Alpha, I think that we are SO STRONG that we will move on from this, re-colonize and come back bigger and better than ever before!!! Let the love of our founders keep our hopes high and our spirits strong!!

Alpha Chapter
Eric Conrad on the TKE discussion board has a great thread about when one chapter, no matter the organization closes, it affects all that campus's Greek organizations. After all, if the "lowest' fold, the top ones are closer to the ground.
My heart and prayers go out to Alpha Chapter. I can only guess what a blow it was to expect IHQ to talk about Rush and then to bel told you are going to close very soon.

a truly sad day for Alpha Gams everywhere
beth14g ... please check for a PM that I'll be sending to you.
As some of you may remember, I had the pleasure of visiting the Alpha chapter back during my trip back in February when Suzanne and Nancy were there as well.
I can sincerely say that everyone of the sisters I met were super nice!! I know how much Emily & the rest of the chapter cared about AGD and carrying on the proud Alpha tradition. I echo the sentiments that many of our sisters have already shared - our Alpha sisters are in hearts. Know that we are thinking about you & wishing you nothing but the best.
You are and always will be our AGD sisters ... remember that Alpha Gam is the sisterhood that never ends - you need us & we'll be here.
Loyally in EP,
Jen

Because you would have to delete the entire thread...only moderators can do that. If you want to "edit" what you said...do that..otherwise if you want to clarify, just reply back.
