Ditto. And based on my experience, OSU has a fairly strong Greek life.

Maybe I'm reading too much into his posts, but it seems like the guy is putting fraternity life on a pedestal full of anecdotes and stereotypes. I think he's setting himself up for disappointment when he arrives in Columbus and finds it's not like how it is in the books and movies.

While OSU has a very healthy greek life, it's definitely not the be-all, end-all like it is at other schools. It's not a main attraction (I'm not knocking it or trying to be dismissive towards it at all, because the chapters there are great. And hey, my school has minuscule greek life in comparison!). Greek life isn't such a huge focus like it is at IU, U of I or even UW

The purpose of my post was to basically try and drag the OP down to reality. Is this a little bit clearer?

Is there really any campus where he could arrive and find it be like it is in the books and movies?

Unless he wants to read "The Night of the Seven Fires."

Exactly.

For that matter, the same can be said of college life.

Not sure what in my posts made you all feel I was putting fraternities on a pedestal. I simply was curious as to if what the book alluded to was something other people had experienced. The Goat was an atrocious memoir of an awkward man that gets hazed and doesn't even finish the program.

As far as buying a book with no reviews...there really aren't a lot of fraternity memoirs. Sure, I've seen them mentioned briefly in biographies here and there, but I've been looking for something that was more of a "present day" experience within a fraternity.

Hope that made everything clearer. I'm also assuming that, since no one has suggested any, there really aren't fraternity memoir books available?

This "Fratastic" book seems to be in the same vein as "Epsilon Zeta" which is based on the author's time in Sigma Chi at FSU.

I bought that book when it first came out but I never read it.

It's the same thing as "Pledged" for sororities.

Wow. I'm not really sure why everyone here is so hostile. Hopefully the group I pledge won't act like you all.

Because we've told you these books are either fake or written by someone w/ an ax to grind or both.

Thinking that your experience will be anything like you read in a book is silly. Just rush and quit trying to figure it out before you get there - you really can't.

Actually, check the IPs. I'm the author (Chad Wittekind). Just been watching this thread for a little while. I had actually considered posting a topic about my book but, from past experience with GreekChat, just assumed it'd be met with unadulterated hatred.

The stories are true. I didn't have an "axe to grind" and the names were changed for legal reasons. If any of you actually read the book, you would be qualified to comment on it. GoBuckeyes has emailed me several times and seems to have taken an almost unhealthy fascination with the validity of my book and fraternity life in general.

Thank you to any and all that do check out my book, I would highly appreciate it. To those that just want to criticize with no grounds....to each their own I suppose.
