I don't currently go to school in California. When I said they didn't have a quota system... I think I phrased it wrong. There aren't requirements for a sorority to get a certain number of members... they just need to be at or under the member total for the chapter. It's kind of weird. Maybe I just totally have it wrong :P

Let me clarify: I'm not planning on joining any sorority until after I'm transferred. It's not like I'm going to pledge at my current school for one semester and then ditch them. That's not at all what I meant.

Then please reconsider going through recruitment this coming Fall 2010 at your current school (as your first post indicated), since it now sounds as if you are definitely going to be transferring. You may be displacing another PNM who is intent on accepting an invitation/bid. i.e. you may be receiving an invitation to parties with no intention of becoming a member, whereas another PNM could receive your invitation and possibly become a member of that chapter.

I didn't even think of that, AzTheta. I am hoping to transfer for sure, if I get accepted I'm going. Hurting another PNM's chances is the last thing that I want to do, since I'm not planning on accepting a bid. I was just thinking of going to the mass meeting and then the house rounds and not more than that. It was more of a contingency plan just in case I don't get accepted to my transfer school.

AND... invitations are issued for the second round of parties following open house/ice water tea/first round. Membership selection starts then, and there are often very heavy cuts following the first round. So, you WOULD be "hurting another PNM's chances" if you do this.

I don't see how this is a "contingency plan". Further, I do not care for, nor do I believe in, "contingency plans" when it comes to recruitment.

I quoted myself and bolded the statement that I wrote as it appears that the entire message was not processed.

Again, I wish you good luck. Now I'm going to leave this to the recruitment advisors (and others), as I have said all that I needed to say.

When I said contingency plan, I meant it as an opportunity to meet all the sororities on my campus, so I would have a better idea of what I wanted for informal. This was only IF I didn't get accepted and go to my transfer school. In any case you've done your job and convinced me that participating is not the right decision. Thanks for your input!
