GammaPhi88: The different locations was for a purpose. My club is really small, as I mentioned before, and we usually extend bids to girls if they came to our rushes. So a lot of girls who didn't get their first choice bid, get a bid from us, and as most people who don't get their desired bid know, it's heartbreaking to see another group of people celebrating that they got the club they wanted while they didn't. And it also gives the members of our club who didn't pick it as their first choice to tell these girls about how this club may be the right place for them. I thought it was a good idea.

Alpha Chi Omega was originally founded as Alpha Kai Omega. The name was changed, I believe, around the time the first badge was commissioned.

Duh. I am very much aware of what the meaning is. Just because people don't go to a Christian school doesn't mean they don't know things like this.

This is my point. Alpha Kai Omega is not only pronounced the same way as the NPC sorority, it is also the original name of the group the sorority was founded from. These facts are public, very easy to find with a simple google search and were available when this "club" was founded in 2000. It isn't like there aren't any AChiO chapters in the state of Texas.

I apologize if that came off as offensive. I didn't mean it to if it did. And I do see your point and I didn't even think about that fact. This may be because I didn't really look into a bunch of information about other school's when applying to my university, but I didn't know any of the NPC sorority names before I had friends at other schools join them and actually started looking up information on them. Maybe someone who was a part of the original charter class wanted to make it sound like it was a real group? I never really looked into it much. Thanks for bringing that up. It honestly never even crossed my mind.

She didn't form Alpha Kai Omega so chill. I'm assuming you're a GATA, BeeVee? Thanks for your story. I think that it illustrates that PNMs don't just join smaller chapters because they have no other choice. For many people, these chapters are where they feel at home and meet the people with whom they make the best connections. I commend you for listening to your own intuition and not to the tent talk.

...this isn't always the case.

If that other company has a registered tradename, you'll be in a world of trouble if you attempt to use the same name for your business.

AOIIAngel: Thanks. And yes, that's why our girls are doing what we can to do our best this year at RUSHES and events of that nature (along with outside of those times, too, of course). I truly feel like I'm closer to some of my sisters than I am to my real siblings, not to say that I don't love them or that we aren't close, but I'm sure you also understand where I'm coming from with this statement. We really just wanna show the PNM's for next semester that we really do care about them and are already willing to invest in them. I am doing my best to remember as many names as I can so that even if I just happen to see one of the girls around campus I can just say hey. A simple, but effective way of making girls realize they're actually appreciated. Which, as you read, is how I came to join GATA anyway. 90 never looked so good, baby.

Maybe they really just didn't do their research when chartering the club? Maybe they did and figured since it was no longer AXO's official name anymore there might not be a problem? I'm not a member of that club and I don't know anyone from the charter class, so I can't really say. Our AKO is also only at my university right now, at least that I know of, and they don't use the same colors or symbols, etc. It could just purely be a coincidence backed up by poor researching... I'm happy for the input, so don't worry about the direction this forum has gone, haha. You originally came here because you were interested in my post. Whether or not they named their organization Alpha Kai Omega after Alpha Chi Omega's original name wouldn't matter (as far as I know), because as you said, it's not their official name. It is kind of interesting that they chose that particular name, but again, it could have been because of poor researching or a simple coincidence.

I was more referencing pbear19's analogy about the company names, as you WOULD want to do your research before naming your business.

Either way, I found the story interesting and entertaining, and I'm glad you found such a great group of sisters

I've seen other Christian colleges with all-local systems where the names of national fraternities or sororities are used. Quite frankly, I just don't think it's something on their radar.
