the ones going through sorority recruitment ALL think they're too fat, too tall, too short, too flat-chested -- and not hot enough to go to the frat parties.

Why? Because we're told that.

Maybe no one comes up to you and says, "Hey Jenny, I think you could stand to lose a few pounds," but when you're the girl who's excluded from every social outing, you start to draw your own conclusions.
This girl is confusing. Being "told that" and "drawing your own conclusions" are completely different things. If I wasn't invited out, I wouldn't be like "Hmm, I'm fat." I might think they don't like me, but I certainly wouldn't jump to physical qualities before examining my personality and the relationship I have (or don't have) with those girls. Especially if you're a new member and all the people going out are good friends who have been sisters for a few years? I don't feel bad for her because she wanted to make friends with upperclassmen and compromised her friendship with people in her own pledge class by not standing up for them (ie: "Emily"). Maybe you should've focused on making friends in your own class and directing the organization in the direction you want it to be. ...Which is apparently helping 18 year olds get drunk.

This is obviously a girl whose popularity in HS had very little to do with HER or what SHE actually was or accomplished...she was most likely riding on the coattails of a popular older sibling or a well-established family name in the community. Unfortunately she was too stupid to be aware of this fact and thought it really was her.
Good point 33girl. When I wrote that I was thinking about the girls who stayed in the high school mindset...not about the ones who were ready to leave it all behind. I overgeneralized on that one.
