What a great story! As others have said, your writing is superb! I like that you get to go back to each house for the rounds leading up to pref. How many do you get to go back to for pref? Usually your choices get narrower and narrower...in your case, it works out well since your preferences have shifted around.

I am loving this thread- you are a wonderful writer! Our campus is almost done with informal recruitment (we have deferred recruitment, so we only recruit upperclassmen in the fall) and our chapter has done a Beatles-themed recruitment, so needless to say, your story feels very familiar right now! Can't wait to hear about pref

Out of curiosity, did you pick the names on purpose? I find it funny that Lennon was psychedelic and Harrison was Indian themed.

Pref Night “The Long and Winding Road That Leads to Your Chapter”

Sorry it took me so long to update; I was really tired when I got in last night and needed some Golden Slumbers to fend off my cold. Last night I met with Penny Lane at Abbey Road Studios to pick up my Pref invites; inside my envelope there were two slips of paper; they read:

Lennon
Starr

I wasn’t shocked to find that McCartney had cut me, but it hurt a little that I wasn’t invited back to Harrison. I decided not to dwell on the houses that cut me and concentrate on the two I still had. After all, Lennon was my number one choice and I looking forward to visiting Starr again.

Lennon: I was met at the door by Julia, my twin from yesterday. We sat down and talked while enjoying a slice of Wild Honey Pie, which was delicious. During dessert several girls I’ve met in the past couple weeks, including Yoko, the President of Lennon, stopped by to say hi. Afterwards Yoko and a couple other sisters gave speeches about what Lennon means to them and we all took part in a small ceremony. I was so moved, I thought I was going to cry, but at the same time I was too happy and excited to cry. Is that normal for Pref?

Starr: The Starr sisters surrounded us at the door and gave us each a little star necklace to wear. Here we feasted on Savoy Truffle (a recipe borrowed from the Harrisons) and I spoke to Barbara, whom I had met during the First Round. After dessert, we were taken into the living room where the Starrs were singing in a circle. The PNMs joined the circle and the Starrs gave speeches and performed a short ceremony. I like this house and the people in it, but I just don’t feel as strong of a connection at Starr as I do at Lennon.

Back at Abbey Road,we had to rank the houses. We were told that we could only rank the houses if we had attended their Pref party and to only write down the house if we were willing to accept their bid. I took my paper and wrote:

1.Lennon
2. Starr

At this point, I'm kind of glad that Harrison cut me. If I had gone to Harrison and Lennon, I’d probably still be trying to make up my mind. Well, Bid Day is tomorrow. We're supposed to meet in Candlestick Park in the afternoon. I’ll update as soon as I get back. Thank you all for being so patient!

I've Got A Feeling that this is the single best line ever in a recruitment story. I Want To Tell You that I've loved Every Little Thing about this thread. I hope that you are All Together Now with your new sisters.

Bid Day “And in the End…..”

My Recruitment Group met in Candlestick Park to receive our bids. It was a beautiful, sunny day. Birds were chirping and a band was playing on a stage in the distance. Penny was sitting at a table and called us over one by one. When I sat down, Penny smiled and passed me a yellowish-green envelope.

It was a bid to Lennon, my first choice!

I was then led to the bleachers where all the new members were sitting. I saw my friend Lucy, who was also clutching a green Lennon bid. One of my other friends, Pattie, had a red bid card that turned out to be from Harrison. There were a lot of baby blue McCartney bid cards in my Recruitment Group as well. I was also happy to see some girls holding pink Starr bid cards; I really hope that Starr gained a lot of great girls today.

When we were all given our bids; the Recruitment Counsellors made us guess which house they were in before they’d actually tell us. We had most of them figured out, but I was shocked to find that Penny Lane was a Harrison. I thought she was a McCartney!

We were then taken back to the Lennon house to meet with our new sisters. We had a lot of fun and a lot of food. We learned some cheers and songs and got to know each other in a much more relaxed setting than the hectic Recruitment Parties. I had a great night, but now I’m so tired, that I think I’ll let it be for tonight and continue Bid Day tomorrow.

Good Night!
