Should Jesse Get Involved?

I'm not a huge Jesse Jackson fan, but I often have to remind myself that he is a minister and a "politician" of sorts - therefore he may feel called to do something that doesn't make sense under an ordinary analysis. If he feels compelled to go, then he should go on his own terms, not on those of the Taliban and not on those of the Bush administration.

According to MSNBC's ticker yesterday, Jesse will NOT go over there. The ticker went on to say that he will send letters to the Taliban government.

IMO, it seems like the only people that should communicate with those are OFFICIAL representatives of this country. Everyone else should take a chill pill and see what happens next. We don't need people trying to "play" hero which could get us into more serious consequences.

I agree wholeheartedly. Jesse is not the president, nor does he hold an official office here. He's a private citizen just like the rest of us.

He'd only be making matters worse by confusing an already complex situation. He needs to understand that Bush is our president, like it or not. This nation needs to speak with ONE voice to the Taliban and that voice is our president.

I must say that I was flabbergasted when I found out that Jesse claimed to have been invited by the Taliban, but merely invited himself. It seems to me that he is desperately trying to get back into the good graces of the American people and this doesn't seem like a good way to do it. The situation over there is tense and anything could happen, if he were to go. We have the President and Congress to speak for us, as Americans, NOT Jesse Jackson.

Well Jesse was on Oprah yesterday and he held up a 2nd letter that the Taliban sent him to come over and talk. I hope he wouldn't get on Oprah and lie about them inviting him.

Jesse is my frat.....and though I disagree with some of the things he has said and done, the man loves to get involved in international affairs when American lives are at risk. And he has had some pretty good success when he's gotten involved.

However....this time? Don't get involved. I believe the Taliban invited him, but I think it was a gesture meant to be divisive among our country (maybe along racial lines??). I don't really think the Taliban wants to negotiate with the US whom they call the 'Great White Satan.'

Stay out of it Bruh....let us in the military negotiate this one.
