I enjoy that she had to ask what PNM stood for in her own thread then headed over here to sound like she knows what's what to someone else in this thread. Classic.

She hasn't logged in for about two and a half years, I think we're safe.

I'd also advise any Texas PNM to get RECS. They're something that's standard at UT.

Sort of like applying to a Fortune 500 company. Everyone in the applicant pool will have an MBA, but that's just to get your foot in the door, so to speak.

I'm at A&M and I'll be rushing as a sophomore and I've been looking into how many sophomores made the pledge classes and it's roughly about 8 - 12 out of about 44-50 for each sorority. I imagine it'll be about the same for UT. Good luck next fall! We're in the same boat
As previous posters have said - A&M rush is NOTHING like UT rush. You looked at the websites and saw a number of sophomore pledges at A&M, that is because rush there is MUCH less competitive than at Texas. A&M's greek system is fairly new (relatively speaking), the environment there is completely different than UT. The increased popularity of the greek system at A&M is very much a function of the fact that many more "greek types" are going to A&M now.

While this girl may find a place in a house at UT, it will be harder and she will need to have her ducks in a major row in order to stand out among the hordes of freshmen who are rushing.

Have outstanding recs, have a killer resume, have great photos, etc.

MAKE GOOD FRIENDS in the houses! You will need people to pull for you!!!

I haven't logged on in a while because I've been busy with finals and then summer school. Fortunately I have all my recs done, and I ended up with a pretty good GPA. Recruitment is next week, and I was just wondering if anyone knew if you can carry a purse with you during recruitment? I was also wondering if anyone knew about how many sophomores receive a bid during rush. I heard usually it's less than 5 sophomores per sorority. I'm getting really nervous and excited! Anymore advice is MUCH appreciated.

Thanks!

This is something you should be asking your rho chi, don't you think? She should be able to tell you if you can carry a purse. I know this is a helpful site, but it amazes me that people don't ask REAL PEOPLE some of these questions.

You're not the only one it amazes.

This is a really good question for your Pi Chi/Rho Chi/Gamma Chi.

Do you get to meet with them before recruitment? I know at my school, the girls were contacted by their Rho Chi as soon as they registered.

As far as being a sophomore, there's nothing you can do about that. Just be sure that you are being open minded because there are probably chapters at UT who (for whatever reason) just aren't going to consider non-freshmen. So you may get cut heavily.

I think if you don't have the confidence to seek out the answers to these questions from "real" people, then how can you possibly have the confidence to go through recruitment, especially at these competitive schools? I realize things are different from when I was a student--we didn't have these fancy websites back then--but unless you absolutely know no one at your school, I would ask your friends about these things and then come to this site.
