For graduation my parents had given me a ring with a gemstone in it that happened to be the same color as MWU’s color. I got several comments on it throughout rush. While sitting with the Pres and VP, the VP asked me if she could try my ring on. I said sure and gave it to her. We keep talking and I was feeling great about February. Then it is announced that the party was ending. I asked the VP for my ring back. She smiled, said nope, and started walking away. I stood up and went after her and again politely ask for my ring back. She turned to me and said in a nasty tone, “sisters share everything” and slammed it into my hand. I didn’t know what to say. I loved the Februaries, and I felt like I had just blown my chances because I wanted my ring back. I left February nearly crying.

What a PSYCHO!!!!

Joanie’s mother had called her sister, her sister looked into it, and it had indeed been a mistake. Joanie was going back to October after all.
Maybe there was an error, but I see this as an infraction "by proxy".

This is quite possibly one of the weirdest things I've ever heard in a rush story. Not sure what she was going for with this.

I was just bizarre. And I was really just too scared or ashamed that somehow this was my fault or something to do anything about it. These were great girls, and she was not remotely an example of what this house was really like. Later, when I got to know them better, I learned that she was a bit of a trouble maker and used to getting her way. I'd see her on campus and she'd say hello, so obviously it didn't phase her too much.

Since it happened more than 15 years ago, I wasn't really trying to "go anywhere" with this. It was just a crazy thing that happened to me. Now I think the whole thing is quite hilarious.

I imagine it would be considered an infraction, technically, but if my daughter had been cut and my other daughter was in the house, I definitely would have called the older daughter to find out what had happened. Mistakes do happen. Talk about a mess! I bet that was a big hulabaloo!

I have no idea why my screen name changed to zubee!

Ok, it's apparently back to normal. So to recap, it was odd. I got over it. The Febs were great girls. No harm toward them, just a crazy thing.

I think KSU meant that she didn't know where the RUSHER was trying to go with this, not about where you were going with this by telling us about it. At least that's the way I read it.

More story please!

Agree. I don't know what I would have made of that situation at a very sheltered age 18. I know what I would do now.

Good story, I'm looking forward to more.

Cool. I just wanted didn't want anyone to think I was being unpanhellenic by telling the story. The Greek community was pretty tight knit at my school, and really there was hardly a house that I didn't have a friend in, so i didn't want anyone to think I was saying something that would harm any of them.

Day Five, Part. 1-Progressive luncheon

For the final day, MWU had a bit of an odd schedule. You could be attend up to three parties. During the day you would attend a progressive luncheon at your remaining houses, and then in the afternoon only rushees would make a cut to decide their final houses (up to two) for pref later that night. However, there was still a chance you could end up at your third choice. MWU only had this system for one more year before wisely switching to three pref parties instead.

I sat with my invite list in my hand just saying a little prayer that January would be there, and I would at least get a full schedule. It read:

October
January
June

I still had January, but I was disappointed to have been cut from November. And February just made me mad. The whole ring debacle was stupid, but I told myself I wouldn’t want to be somewhere where people thought it was OK to walk off with your valuables!

October: First up was salad at October. They had a fiesta theme with pińatas and an actual mariachi band. It was great fun. The Octobers looked even more beautiful in their brightly colored dresses. But because of the way their dining room was structured, it was incredibly loud and I could barely hear my rusher across the table from me. But I didn’t care, I was still on the ego trip of the Octobers wanting me. And knowing that Joanie could wind up there was a plus too. I could be happy at October.

January: The main course was at January. It was a mardi gras theme. I was paired with the girl from skit day, and we once again we laughed our way through the lunch conversation. I felt like she was an old friend. She said she hoped I had an easy time making my final decision. And then I made a major rush faux pas. I said, oh I’ve really pretty much made my decision. I love January!! What a naďve idiot I was.

June: Dessert at June was cheesecake with our names on it. They had a Mad Hatter tea party theme. It was charming. Once again, the Junes proved what a close sisterhood they had. They made you really want to be a part of it. I could easily see myself content as a June.

Benzgirl,

I know what you are saying about Joanie's mistake being an infraction by proxy. But, as a parent myself now, I can see her mother getting an hysterical phone call (their mom had not been Geek, BTW), and not understanding how Joanie could have been cut and wanting to help her sobbing daughter out. So obviously she'd call her older daughter. And as the older sister, if no one had told you your sister had been cut and then you heard from your mother she was, you'd want to know why. And then to find out it was a mistake, you'd want to take action on it. I don't think any of the three, Joanie, sis or mom, were looking to get around rush rules.

I'm not greek and I can understand why the mother would call the older sister as well.

Wildcat, please come back and finish your story!!
