Anyone need a Halloween costume idea? Cosplay your favorite American Girl doll!

(And if you don't look like any of them, just say you're an American Girl of Today.)

Samantha is the only AG doll I ever got, and she has always been my favorite! It's sad to see her ending....I wish I had collected more of her accessories.

Hahaha...yes I feel you on that. I believe I was a semi-fan of American Girl books when I was in 4th/5th grade, but i've definitely outgrown that. I wasn't even aware that they made dolls.

I am going to cry if (when) they retire Josefina. Several years ago, the hospital auxiliary here had a Josefina party to raise money; they 'bought' the rights and supplies to conduct the party from the Pleasant Company. I was so excited and plunged into the work...and then the Mexican woman who was going to hostess this huge party bailed at the last minute and I found myself in a huge Mexican dress with a script. I had to stand up there in front of hundreds of people and do the whole thing with a Mexican accent, using lots of Spanish. Women I'd known for 20 years were sitting there open-mouthed.

In spite of that, I still love Josefina (and the Bitty Babies) best.

vjioletpretty, I have no idea! The closest I've been to American Girls is buying their "trinkets" for friends' kids, and the little books from Chick-fil-a. Although, I really think I would have gotten into them when I was a child...

My sister and I each had a bitty baby with most of their stuff too!

I adored my American Girl dolls and books. I have Samantha and Josefina, Samantha is by far my favorite doll and books, but I liked Felicity, too.

that's so sad!!!
I never had one of those dolls, but I did get a "girl of today" doll. Brown hair, brown eyes, and fair skin. I named her Anna
She came in a red leather jumper with a black long sleeved shirt underneath, and dark striped stockings and black shoes. She's still in my room actually. lol. My bf thinks it's creepy because it sits on my bookshelf

I also used to have a Magic Attic doll. Did anyone else? I had Allison (blonde) and my little sister had Megan (redhead)

My college freshman daughter's reaction to the news? (She's the one with Samantha - her sister has Kirsten)

"Why do they hate me?"

I was a Samantha fan as well- she was my one & only AG doll, mostly because she looked like me.

It makes me sad too.

I feel bad that I can't even sympathize. My mom never bought me any doll/book except for Addy, so I have no idea about the other girls. I don't like seeing anything good end though.

This is sad for me. I don't know if anyone knows but there were American Girl fashion shows. My grandmother took me to my first fashion show when I was five and my favorite picture of my grandmother was the Samantha model, my grandmother and me dressed like Samantha. When I was older, I was in a few of the shows as a Girl of Today and Samantha. She was my favorite doll even though I had four or five of them. I lost interest in the company a few years after Mattel bought it. I disliked most of the new girls. Has it really been a decade? I still have all the dolls and all the books for my daughters if I have any.
I am a little sad about it just because I had a personal connection.

And I've missed the traditional format of the stories (Intro, School, Christmas, Birthday, Summer, and Winter). They did away with it when Kaya was introduced. I like Julie, but it's a little too soon to do a 70s character. They should have waited at least 10-20 more years. And what's worst is that she's the person for the next AG movie. And the movie is going to be a musical. Ugh. I was hoping that the next movie would focus on Kirsten, Addy, or Josefina. And it was a big mistake to put the Kit movie in theaters. They should have put it on Nickelodeon. I mean, the Barbie movies come on there.

I wish that they would do an Asian main character. Ivy (Julie's friend) doesn't count, because she is a friend doll.

I like the current Girl of the Year doll, Mia. She's my favorite of all of the GotY dolls so far. I might try to get her. And I don't get the earring on the Just Like You dolls. I understand with Addy and Josefina, but the earrings ruin the JLY dolls.

I never got into the American Girl dolls or books. I think I was missing a girl gene when I was younger. I also never got into the Babysitters' Club books or the Sweet Valley High books. I preferred the Fudge books, Encyclopedia Brown books, Ramona books, and Bunnicula books. But if there had been an American Girl doll and book about an Asian-American main character, I think I would have gotten into that.
