heheheh why thanks. I can't believe I'm talking to a female who knows so much about hockey. If you can down a molson faster than me, we're getting marrried.

Tampa WISHES they could be the Sea of Red. The only reason they passed out the shirts last night was in response to the sea of red, which consists of fans who shelled out probably more than 50 bucks for a jersey.

Plus, I hear the different chants at Flames games...in typical American fashion, the PA guy needs to play the organ to get the crowd going the way Calgary just starts the "GO FLAMES GO"., Very soccer-like high school crowd...and I love it, and hope Darryl's boys feed off of that.

Don;t get me wrong, I'll always be an Avalanche fan, but it's great to see a city rally around a team like that.

Well I don't know if I can down a molson quicker than you...but I can try!

I love hockey. To me it's the greatest game in the universe. Not only am I a fan, but I play too (and 100% hetero!)

And I can guarantee you that those flames fans shelled out more than 50 bucks for those jerseys. Cheap ones start around 80 bucks (that's Canadian) and depending on store and if you want letters on them and how popular they are you could easily spend $200 on a jersey ( my brothers Leaf Jersey was $120 bucks without a name and his Buffalo Sabres jersey with Stu Barnes' name was $140)

My b/f and I were going to drive into Calgary this weekend for the game, unfornately he's throwing me a grad/birthday party tomorrow night - so no partying on the red mile for me; but we will have the game on at the party.

I knew Tampa would do something like wear white after seeing the sea of red. I wish Vancouver would do something like that - fans used to wear all white back in the day - "white noise". But at least we have the towels and can claim "ownership" of that!

Go Flames Go!

Didn't the Jets used to do something like that en masse?

Was it towels? White shirts? I can't remember but I'm pretty sure they did something.

Oh yeah duh! I remember the last game in Manitoba when the Red Wings killed them like 6-0. The place was so surreal, all wearing white and cheering them on for the last time.

Well, I wonder who started that first

I realized something: When Winnepeg would play San Jose, we'd have West Side Story all over again!

Yeah it would be interesting to know who started it first.

I wonder how these things start. Obviouslt Tampa wanted to do something to beat the Sea of Red. But who started these traditions? Was it a couple of fans? Were they marketing ploys by the teams?

When did the Steelers start the White Towel thing - before or after 1982???

Yes the Jets were white hot and the Canucks were white noise.

Has anyone seen this yet - it has to be a joke - if you read in between the lines it points to two of Canada's gripes: Western alienation and the separation of Quebec...

OTTAWA WILL AWARD STANLEY CUP TO QUEBEC

The federal government today announced it would award the STANLEY CUP to
Quebec, if Alberta's CALGARY FLAMES win the competition. The cup will go,
instead, to Quebec's MONTREAL CANADIENS, who were defeated in the early
rounds of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Prime Minister Paul Martin said the
hockey series was "only a guideline," and non-binding. He conceded that
CALGARY might have been the best hockey team, "but we have to look at what's

best for Canada."

"We have to support Canada's hockey industry, which is centered in
Montreal," said the Prime Minister. "Montreal is in the best position to
take full advantage of the Stanley Cup." He said the decision to overrule
the playoff results was "difficult and painful," but that national interests

had to prevail over petty "regional considerations."

Loss of the coveted trophy left most of Alberta seething with rage. "It's
another example of Quebec getting the goodies and the West getting the
shaft," said Ted Byfield. Indignant Quebec MP's who lobbied long and hard
for the Stanley Cup vehemently denied that the decision had anything to do
with politics. "It's not as if the West isn't getting its fair share of
federal support. We've announced the Lloydminster upgrader eight or nine
times. And let's not forget about all that rain for Western farmers this
spring."

Quebec Industry Minister dismissed Western complaints as "anti-French
hysteria from Alberta dinosaurs." "Quebec absolutely deserves this," he
said. "The MONTREAL CANADIENS have extensive experience as Stanley Cup
champions, while the CALGARY FLAMES have little to none. Sure, CALGARY won
the series with a couple of fluke goals and lucky saves, but the CANADIENS
have proven themselves over the long haul. If we're denied the Stanley Cup
now, it could only rejuvenate Quebec separatism and threaten the integrity
of all of Canada."

The Quebec premier was delighted to see the cup go to MONTREAL. He said the
trophy will be re-engraved with its new name "La Coupe Stanley" to comply
with Quebec sign laws.

LOL!!! On a more serious note, Quebec's Radio-Canada has lost its rights to air La Soiree du Hockey. Canadiens games are now going to air on a cable sports channel there.
