Haha, I was late to the party too! I completed the books about two weeks ago or so. I'm now eagerly awaiting the DVD so I can tear it apart and discuss the movie vs the book version with the other teachers who read the book.

I thought it was a great exercise in writing and found the story from his perspective more interesting than the one from Bella's. While I still shake an angry fist at the jerk who posted the story, I do think it would have gotten repetitive quickly.
I still can't believe someone would do such a terrible thing. I thought it was bad enough when someone took pictures of the Harry Potter book and posted the pages online, but at least that was completed, printed, and bound. This was an author's draft. That is sacred. I can't even imagine the horror and exposure she felt.

I thought the story was more interesting from his perspective too, for the first book. In subsequent books, I don't think it would be as beneficial. We understand Edward more in the later books anyway.

That's why I started reading it! About 2 weeks before the movie came out my students let their teachers borrow the books and a bunch of us got addicted! Topics around the lunch table were often about Twilight much to the male teachers' chagrin.

I felt alone. I felt like I had no more goals to reach. I just felt... empty? Lol it took me 2 months to get through the series and I think the emptiness has a lot to do with having them be a huge part of my two months of life.

She says she knows who it was that leaked it because of the different versions that were handed out. I wonder what happened to that person.

My mom was reading an interview that USA Today did on Stephen King. He spoke about JK Rowling and about Stephanie Meyers.
Apparently he thinks Rowling is a great writer, but that Meyers can't write for shit (my mom's words, don't know if they were his). My mom lol'ed so hard, cause she doesn't like Twilight.

One of my pledge sisters feels the same way. Oh well - more for us. It's my crack ... err heroin.
And when I finished Breaking Dawn, I had no idea what to do with myself. I already read Midnight Sun. It was very upsetting.

After Breaking Dawn, I was like, THAT'S IT??!! But what happens to Nessie and Jacob? Did Edward and Bella have more kids? WHAT HAPPENED WITH CHARLIE AND SUE??!! Did Edward ever take a swipe at Mike Newton, lol? (I also read all four books this weekend)
Stephen King needs to get over himself. Meyers has a specific audience and that's who she writes for. I'm sure she thinks about King's approval when she cashes her royalty checks.

Actually, her writing isn't that great. There were a few times when I had to reread paragraphs and sometimes things didn't make sense. However she writes an awesome storyline and as far as creating the visuals, does a great job.

I agree with y'all about Midnight Sun - but I still think you HAVE to read Bella's side first for Edward's to have that AHA! feeling. I really wish she would have made it to the meadow scene, thought before it got leaked, because that's the scene that STARTED this whole series (on her website, it said the idea came from a dream of the meadow scene). I also agree to some extent on her writing - it's sort of juvenile, but creative - but it works for her intended audience. I don't know if I could have read 2,500 pages of a "serious" author like that.
I'm working on her other book right now - The Host. It's an "adult" book, and the writing style is a bit different. She calls it "Science fiction for people who don't like science fiction". I'm not 100% sold on it yet, but I think that's partially due to me expecting Edward to race in any second in a Volvo and drag the main character away. However, if it ends like I think it's going to end (I'm about 3/4 through), I'm going to have to agree with everyone on the author taking the easy, neat & tidy cop-out endings.

ME TOO!! I keep waiting for Edward or Jacob (or their "type" to come into the scene).
