I think the challenge spoke for itself. I wager a guess that it wasn't simply the Americans who put all their balls into her bag, that would just be unfair (they have a strong majority to simply vote out someone). I wouldn't say it was because Topaz is black that this happened, it is just a coincidence. As you speculate, I would hope it would infer more behind the scenes (hard time connecting with) issues.

Agreed! She didn't really seem to take anything seriously, and didn't appear to get along with anyone overly well. I don't think that she would have been an overly productive member (and in a chapter of 5 [still don't understand their logic on that one], that would make a HUGE difference.

Let me give you a non-Greek example to give you an idea of the context it was given and the implications made since you really had to watch both the show and the series play out to really get the whole picture.

Say you are in a college admissions interview. The interviewer lists off several well known successful people who have degrees from that college and implies that their success was based on that degree and you too could join those illustrious ranks. Only everyone the interviewer lists received an honorary doctorate. Those people are accomplished, but they received their degree because of their accomplishments. It doesn't mean they won't continue to achieve and maybe even achieve future great things within the auspices of the school/degree, but the interviewer is using the well known person to imply that the school had to do with the success and you can too just like them if you attend.

I was pretty sure it would be Topaz when a few of the pledges were talking about blackballing the person who they weren't able to make the same kind of connection with even though they didn't dislike her. Also, I think their reactions to the coffin situation really demonstrated their differences. All the girls thought it ended up being a positive experience based on what they made of it (the compliment coffin! lol) and I think the word Topaz used for it was cheesy.

That makes sense. Thanks.

Yeah, I'm not implying that it happened BECAUSE she was a woman of color, I'm just saying that it's disappointing that it turned out that way. If they are serious about being a sorority, it can hurt their future recruitment efforts to look to homogenous.

... I just realised that each of the American sisters had one of their littles in the Final 5.

You know, I was wondering about that. I kept thinking, "I wonder if each girl will have one of their little sisters stay?" This episode was really good. Do you think they will have another Sorority Girls show (with the British girls)? Do you think they will keep Sigma Gamma going? I want to see who these girls are and how they are doing now (the British girls).

I think they were smart in pairing them up, a stronger and a weaker new member together. I would like to see how they are doing now, too! I'm interested to see how the chapter is functioning. I follow them on twitter, but they haven't really said that much. (It makes sense, they couldn't reveal who won until the 26th. Wait, does that mean that they couldn't hold any events last term??)

To be honest, that's what I was thinking at the beginning of the season when they said they would only have 5 girls left and each American sister had 2 little sisters. I kept hoping for Maxine to win! I'm so glad she did. I guess they didn't hold recruitment this year. Well, who knows? For all we know, they could have easily held recruitment but, made girls sign something to say they wouldn't reveal anything. I sure hope there is a second part. Do you think there will? Oh, if there is---PLEASE keep me informed. Yep, I'm a nerd. That's okay.

I hope there is!!! (Sorority Girls nerds unite!) I don't know how it's been received in the UK, though. I think it turned out to be a fun show! Part of me hopes that they have rituals that were not taped (I think the only thing that really disappointed me was the initiation ritual, it seemed far more casual than I thought it would be.) I would love to follow the girls go through the other side of recruitment and new member periods. I'm sad it's over I'll probably do a full series marathon soon

Really liked the last episode, feel like the girls have really bonded.
Didn't like the initiation right after Topaz leaving though and I hoped they would go back to the "ritual room" for initiation.
So sad it was only 8 episodes!
Tought I was going to hate it but at times it was so over the top that it was just funny.
I need a second season now!

After watching the season finale, I googled Sigma Gamma Leeds to see if there was any info on another season of the show or the continuation of the group and was unable to find anything. But, I did find a short article about how Leeds University banned the show from entering or filming on the campus. So, though the show seems to promote that the group has ties to the university, it seems to not be the case.

here's the article:

The show was shot in a month's time, so I imagine that they had to condense the number of "pledges" and number of episodes.

I would have absolutely cut Char-Char, the self proclaimed BNOC. As the housemother pointed out, she was an ice queen and acted like she deserved membership more than anybody else. In contrast, Topaz (although she had a definite tough exterior and made some bad choices) was the fastest to stand up for her sisters when they were being attacked. Remember when one of the girls ran out of the room at cut, all upset because she was on the firing line? Topaz ran after her to comfort her and talk her down. That was really risky for her personally and she won me over that day.
