Woot! Auburn recruitment... on my bucket list (and AZ-AlphaXi's as well, for our road trip).

And all I can say is that I'm grateful I'm not the ABC/Education Advisor for the new member class of Thetas. In my mind, this high number may be due to Theta still being new on campus and in a building membership phase. Regardless, welcome to all the PNMs who are now NEW MEMBERS. It's for a lifetime, it truly is.

It always seems that Ohio girls go DZ at both Bama and AU. Irony?

It is weird considering that DZ is HQed in OH. Probably just coincidence. lol. I always love seeing Ohio peeps on bid lists though.

I have a question related to the high numbers of QAs at AU (and really AU recruitment numbers in general.)

How is retention? Like, say XYZ pledges quota + like 20 QAs. Do they tend to initiate most of them?

You will get your first choice if you are on their first bid list.

This is Kappa Alpha Theta's 2nd year of regular rush - they recolonized after being away from Auburn for a few years. They were below the overall limit so they can take more than quota.

if you put them first and you are on their first bid list, you are NOT a QA, you match. That's how a match is made.

They actually had the largest chapter last year, so I'm pretty sure they weren't below total. I think this is the 3rd year of rush since recolonizing, but I could be wrong. I know that they had large numbers at each of their pref parties, so apparently they were getting higher rates of return than were anticipated by RFM. But you guys know a lot more about this stuff than I do.

Apparently they are very pleased not only with the quantity but also with the quality of the girls they ended up with.

It's all the PNMs reading GC and sticking with the process.

This is what I had heard too, so was surprised that now they have a pledge class 50% larger than everyone else. Where to put all these people? So excited for them to have such a fun problem!

Yes, they colonized Spring '09, so this is their 3rd formal recruitment. Those that were freshmen when they colonized would now be seniors, so there may be a healthy chunk of members graduating this year. IIRC, interest in the colony was predominately freshmen.

Congrats to your daughter, the Auburn Thetas, and all the groups on campus. Another successful recruitment.

Whether you are at total or not has nothing to do with how many quota additions you can take. It is predicated only on matching bid lists to bid cards. So you will go to the group you listed highest if you are on their list. As an example from the days of hand bid matching, the PNM's names are called in alpha order and matched to whomever they list first - if they are on that group's first list. And so on thru the list of PNMs. And that is done till a group closes out and then they go with the PNMs second choice, and it starts over for them. The women left once all t he groups close out are then eligible for quota additions as long as they maximized their options. Then they are added as above. It's sooooooo much faster by computer! Take my word as one who did it by hand for many years!

If you take QAs and still aren't at total, you can continue to bid up to total, correct?

This makes sense, and is familiar with what I have previously read on GC.

However, am I dreaming that there are some schools who do the regular matching, as above, but then when they get to the QAs they match those to the group on their MRABA that has the lowest chapter total? Obviously, the thought process would be to try to equalize chapter sizes, so that the big don't just continue to get bigger. The PNM may then get her 1st, 2nd, or yes, even 3rd choice.

It just seems that the two systems have been debated on GC in the past, but maybe my memory is fuzzy.

Yes, they are supposed to QA to the chapter with the smallest total chapter size.
