Dumbasses. Just dumbasses. Carly wasn't bad. Cook wasn't awful. But, you guys had the entire Beatles songbook and you chose THOSE songs?
Michael Johns or Carly, you should have done With a Little Help From My Friends
I could have seen a number of people doing Get Back, with a rocking twist different from the original.
Hello? Ob-la-di ob-la-da anyone? Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band? Revolution (#1)? She Came in Through the Bathroom Window?
C'mon guys. You have a wealth of songs and you chose crappy ones.

^^^Good call, Michael Johns should definitely have done Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band tonight.
I loved David Cook and Chikezie tonight, Simon was harsh on Chikezie, but I loved seeing him do the bluegrass thing after tearing it up last week. He's got a lot more range than I would have thought. And I of course recognize that little David A. is incredibly talented, but he's such a shoo-in for a big record deal that I almost don't bother following him.
I could still live very happily without the sunny girl (blonde) and the Castro kid with the horrible facial contortions. I'm not big on Carly either, again, she can definitely sing but I'm just not a fan of hers (just like last season with Katharine McPhee, sure, she can sing, but she bugged the bejebus out of me for no particular reason).

For what it's worth, I read on the Television Without Pity boards that AI only managed to get 25 Beatles songs cleared...and with 12 singing last week and 11 this week, that would definitely limit their song choices. Not sure if it's true or not, but it might explain things.
I think David Archuleta is clearly the best, but beyond him I dig Brooke, Jason and David Cook. I also like Chikezie when he does the bluegrass thing.

That would explain things. It would also explain Simon's comment about "...whoever sings Blackbird..." It was like he knew someone would have to sing it. I sat there thinking, "Why would someone choose that if they had all the others to choose from?"
It would also explain Brooke White's god-awful lump-of-crap called "Here Comes the Sun." I felt for her. It was like watching Elaine from Seinfeld trying to perform and dance onstage! Spastic! She was SOOOOOOO uncomfortable and out of her element.

I thought Carly's performance was beautiful. You could tell she really connected with that song, and I love to watch that. I also liked David Cook and David A.
I thought Jason's performace was terrible - Paula was dead on with her comment that it seemed like a weird polka. I thought the last chick - what's her name? Ramile? - was bad, too. And Chikeze's arrangement tonight was weird and didn't show off his talent.

Cant say I'm THAT familiar with the Beatles catalog but I just know they have better songs than the 11 picked last night.
Being that I'm only familiar with Blackbird(via the Dionne Farris version) and Yesterday I think Carly and Syesha did well. I think Chikezie was much better than the judges gave him credit for..at least he is the only one of the few who can actually perform.

I kinda figured that's what happened. I couldn't imagine why they weren't choosing better, more popular songs like Sgt. Pepper, Hey Jude or Get Back. This explains it.

So... it's been a hard week for me.
First, I have been battling a stomach bug for about a week. No fun.
Then, my previously sweet, compliant, willing, happy 15 month old decides this is the week to learn the word "no" and to use it as much as possible.
Finally, my husband had call this past weekend, so I have practically not seen him since last Wednesday. Which means I have been a single-stay-at-home mom to a 15 month old rebellious twit, all the while feeling like I could puke at any moment.
So is it asking too much for a bright spot in my week- my beloved American Idol- to bring some much needed sunshine?
Apparantly.
There I sat on the sofa last night, with my favorite blanket, my Sprite, and my crackers, hoping beyond hope for something to smile about.
I should have known this would not go my way when the show opened with Randy yawning.
Let's just say that starting with Amanda Overmyer's hair and following that with Kristy Lee's warbling voice did nothing to soothe my jittery stomach. Even the prospect of Little David Cupcake could not calm things down.
Thus, I gave up after one song and went to bed. I could go back and watch it today, but it sounds like why bother?
If there is one saving grace, at least we all know there are no Beatle songs left to sing.

Nittany...
I think we are somehow separated at birth.
I never got the McFever (bleh) last year and everyone thought I was crazy. I am now hearing the same shock when I indicate that I am not totally on board with this Carly chick.
With Carly, there is some vocal precision there, but she just doesn't connect. I think the problem both of them have is there does not seem to be any "soul" in them. Not soul as in rhythm, but soul as in that which makes us more than 2 dimensional human beings.

It sounds like you're pregnant again... there are only two times in my life I've felt that way for more than a day or two, one is now 14 and the other is 12.

Blondie, I have had this same thought on more than one occasion after reading your posts!
Hope you feel better soon and hope your hubby brings you something big and shiny to make up for the week you've had!!

Yes, that's it! I'm sure Carly is a perfectly decent young woman, but she leaves me cold.
I've only watched about half of the show so far, but I'm already left with the following questions:
Is it week two of "Lennon/McCartney" songs, or week one of "The Beatles" songs? I mean, if AI cleared 25 Beatles songs, there are still over 150 songs in the official catalog that could have been theoretically chosen--not counting Harrison compositions that made it to official release.
Now, if it is week two of Lennon/McCartney, I'm still stuck trying to figure out when either of them wrote "Here Comes The Sun"? Anyone? Anyone?
