I graduated HS from a Springfield OH school YEARS ago (where Wittenburg Col is located) and I remember hearing about a sorority called "the snakes" when I would go to college parties there.

One of my good friends in college almost didn't join Theta because of our colors. Like myself she was born and raised an Iowa State Cyclone and to end up in a sorority where the colors where black and gold ( University of Iowa) was almost sacreligious.
I didn't like one house that served me popcorn during formal recruitment. It got stuck in my teeth.

Me neither but at a convention a few years ago it was explained that this is a nickname at many many campus's b/c our pledge pin is the K (for kappa) and a snake around it to for the Sigma shape.... hense "snakey k's"... some chapters have members hiss at each other too fun huh!
our "official" nickname i think most chapters go by is "SigKap's" kinda wish we could do the whole DZ thing (just letters) but SK really does not sound good

Sigma Kappas go by SK at my school and I guess I'm used to it because it just flows like with DG or DZ.

When I went through Formal Recruitment, I ended up declining invitations back to a certain chapter after the 2nd day because all they did was introduce me to other sisters and talk about how much I reminded them of a recently graduated sister...She was a nice girl, but I didn't want to be known as Sister Suzie's twin. The girls were constantly telling me what Sister Suzie used to do and be like and I knew that if I somehow ended up going home to this chapter, I would have a really hard time making a name and place for myself. I honestly liked the chapter and what they stood for, but I didn't want to risk always being compared to this one sister.

I remember that I cut a house because it was more than a mile walk to the building where I'd be taking all my classes as a junior and senior. The day after I cut them, I realized that was a really stupid mistake because I probably would have had them on my pref list, given the opportunity.

When I rushed, in this one rush room, there was a girl who was really pretty but she had these huge eyes, and whenever she talked to me, she would come up really close to my face (like pretty much right in my face) and just stare at me with those big eyes and didn't even blink or anything. It just freaked me out so much. She did this all the nights of rush. I was like "no way in hell do I wanna be sisters with her."

Okay, I've been trying to hold back from telling my story, but I can't take it anymore. Let me preface this story by saying that I grew up in Berkeley, CA -- land of liberalism.
Anyway, going through rush (as it was called back in the late 90's) I was torn between DG and another sorority. On theme night when I went to the other sorority I talked to some women I had already met and some new ones. At Duke we pretty much all sit on the floor (even in our really nice dresses for pref!) and one of the girls I met is sitting across from me in a skirt and I notice she doesn't shave her legs.
I don't mean that she hasn't shaved in the past week or something, I mean fully grown I-don't-shave hair. The other weird thing is why would you wear a skirt in January (when we have formal recruitment) if you don't shave? I was so distracted by her legs I just couldn't concentrate on talking to her at all. I was like looking at a car accident.
Superficial, I know, but that helped me make my mind up!

ROTFL!
On a side note, when I got to college, I met a LOT of girls who don't shave. It made for some pretty interesting observations, especially when everyone was going for sleeveless tops and miniskirts.
*end hijack*

heh
i don't shave, I haven't shaved in like 5 years (probably longer), of course, my hair is really, really light. Of course, if I wear a skirt, its a long one and if I wear a short skirt, I have on stockings or tights.

I used to think that....then I observed hair sticking out of the stockings...

I was advising today. and overheard a girl today say (while waiting outside for parties to start) that she was "for sure dropping all the ones with 3 letters because 2 letter sororities look better on shirts." Wow.

Probably the dumbest thing I've heard all week. I sincerely hope she grows up a little when/if she pledges.
