This is from Derby Days (note the hats, and Sigma Chi banner in the background), maybe like 1973? Not sure how reliable the dates on the photos are, though. My mom's boyfriend was Sigma Chi, so she has a lot of photos of Sigma Chi stuff. This brother is apparently in drag...
I'm guessing the brother is a pledge. A lot of Derby Days included a "Dec-A-Pledge" contest where each sorority was "assigned" a pledge to "decorate" to match some sort of theme. The chapter with the best "decorated" pledge got points and the pledge usually got some sort of "award" within the Sig chapter. Like not having to do House duty for a month.
I find this hilarious. Even his nails are painted!
(I guess it really is 73, evidenced by the derby in the background)
Seeing the baby bottle makes me think this might be a contest where the pledge has to chug-a-lug. And often, instead of milk, it would be beer. If he wins, the sorority he represents gets points and he gets some "award".
More Derby Days. I LOVE seeing all the letter jerseys together! They're a little hard to see on here, but on the original, I can make out Sigma Chi, AOII, KD, and ADPi.
I'm kind of partial to the short shorts.
I'm guessing this is before a football game. Too bad we can't read the banner! The platinum blonde Gator chick on the swing over the door kills me. The date on the back of this says 1977.
On the left it says "98 lb. weakling," with what appears to be an emaciated tiger...I guess they were playing LSU or Auburn. I think the banner said something about "...in the ring..." so I'm guessing there's a Gator and Tiger off to the left battling it out in the ring.
ETA: or maybe it's a wildcat for Kentucky?
No way that cat is a Wildcat. He would be blue!

Ladies...Ladies...Why do women look so different now? Yes...nutrition. Yes...photographic improvement and as a gift from southern California: plastic surgery, orthodonture, dermatologists, contact lenses, and the ability to know your best angle.

They look pretty serious to me. I wonder if they scared off many fraternity men!

Especially with the pursed lips there on the bottom left, and the disapproving sidelong glance of the lady next to her!

a few years later than tangelo's mom was at uf, one of the events at fsu sigma chi derby day required each sorority to dress up their sweetheart-most often in a costume related to their theme. the year my sorority was crowned derby day champs, 8 of my sisters worked for several weeks constructing a realistic oscar the grouch costume for our sweetheart. except that it was made of orange fake fur, it looked exactly like the real thing, complete with trash can. our poor sweetheart almost got heat stroke, it was so hot during derby field day. it was a little too realistic, because the sigma chi brothers who were on the judges committee did not believe that the girls had made the costume, so we were only awarded 3rd place in that event. if only they could have seen all the remnants of orange fur we were still picking out of the carpets weeks after! good times, good times.

1984 Rose Formal
The girl in the maroon dress made all of our dresses. I'm not sure what cracks me up more: The satin material or that we were all wearing long gloves.
