As big of an OCD germophobe as Kate is, why in the world would she agree to get them PUPPIES?

I don't see that working well.

I was wondering why they were buying all these new appliances when they had washer and dryers before and the house came with kitchen appliances...then I realized Whirpool gave them all these new appliances. The product placement in this episode drove me nuts. No John I dont want to hear about the great POPCORN function on your new Whirlpool microwave (as if no other microwave has that) and Kate you can stop singing about your Whirpool Duet washer/dryer. I use to like the show a lot more before they starting doing a ridiculous amount of product placement in their episodes. I got a DVR to not watch commercials so I prefer them to not show up in my shows as much as they show up on J&K!

I have to say that the whole tone of this show has changed, and not for the better. Kate is so horrible to Jon all the time! Those interview scenes where she gripes and picks at him are becoming painful to watch. It's almost as if she is stuck in biotch mode. Does she ever playback these episodes and really note how often she complains?

The show is more about Kate and her struggles cleaning the fridge - and evidently she just gave up and got a new one? Her love of her new appliances, how great she is at everything compared to Jon, etc. I think we need to get back to THE KIDS!

Just once in this season, I would like to hear Kate talk in a positive tone about her children - what a joy they are, etc WITHOUT qualifying it with some sort of negative, snarky comment. This is typical: "I am just so happy the kids have such nice bedrooms (positive)... because they are a real nightmare to put down in the evenings and now I can't hear them whine" (Snarky additional comment).

Plus, I am just really curious about the whole Jody situation and that has clouded my opinion of Kate...

^^I agree.

It also bothered me a bit during the episode when they were showing the new house to the kids when John and Kate showed the kids their bedroom they were all "take a look around because this will be the last time that you come in here". Then Kate went on to complain about how she and John haven't been able to have much "mommy daddy" time. Hello, you have 8 children, 6 of which are still fairly young and have needs, you knew what you were getting into when you realized that you were having 6 more children. In my opinion, if she's that desperate to have "mommy daddy" time then she and John should just wait until their children are asleep or until they are all in school.

I guess I just really don't see the harm in telling the kids not to come into their bedroom. I wasn't allowed into my parents' bedroom, and I was the only kid. The kids have tons of other places to roam about.

It's not that serious.

True. I was really only allowed to come in my parent's room if I needed something.

I think what they were trying to say is that they're tired of their room being the "hang out" spot for the kids. Like, they come in and out, get up early and watch TV in there, try to sleep in there as opposed to their own rooms, etc.

I can certainly see that parents are entitled to privacy, etc and I agree that using and abusing the parents' bedroom can be curtailed. We have a Please Don't use Our Bathroom policy at our house.

But, again, my issues with Kate are the way she says things. It's as if she thinks being a bad ass is the cool way to parent...I think that is really what is behind the outcry over Kate banning them from her bedroom.

Yeah, she's not always the nicest person when she says things. I think it could have been kept to a simple "This is our room and you are not to come in here unless you really need something."

Jon parties! Plays Beer Pong!

So apparently Jon finally had enough - and went out partying while visiting his mom. Good discussion of what it might all mean -

Between annoying Kate and all those kids, he needed some "me" time.

I haven't watched the show in a few weeks. Do they have babysitters sometimes? Both Jon and Kate need "me" time and "couple" time outside of the kids. Their family situation makes me cringe everytime I watch it.

LOL.

I don't think it necessarily "means" anything, just that EVERYBODY needs to party at some point. Parents aren't meant to be in their Mommy and Daddy roles ALL the time. It's not healthy.

Healthy "me" time?

Well, when I (mother of a mere 4) go to "party", it isn't playing beer pong with young men 1/2 my age. Nope, I tend to go out with my friends, or even my husband. I think there is appropriate mommy/daddy time, and then there's this. I am all for Jon having a good time, but the larger issue is what all this publicity means as far as the children's well-being. Is it in their best interest to be on the show? I think the Open Salon piece does a good job of pointing out some of the ramifications of it all. Given that he's married to Kate, I'm surprised the man isn't a raging alcoholic!

I'm sorry, but why on Earth would someone as big of a germaphobe as Kate get the kids puppies?!

Then she complains about how they pee, poop, don't listen, etc. Wow, imagine that.

I'd never get kids that young an animal, because guess who generally gets to be the one to clean up after them? Mom & Dad.
