Gas Prices Soar!

I just filled up on base for 2.349, down from 2.379 over the weekend.

Around the rest of San Antonio, i've seen prices range from 2.44 to 2.79

It's at $2.59 (lowest grade) in Lawrenceville, GA. Y'all, I'm heading back to New York on Saturday and I'm SCARED! First off, that's a 900 mile-ish trip - whew on the gas.

Then, there's the price up in the area I live. Ok - when I first got to Georgia a few weeks ago, the low grade was at $2.29. If it's jumped $.30...ARGH!

It was $2.69 in my area when I left New York a few weeks ago! So, let's just say it went up $.30 there as well...that's $2.99 FOR THE CHEAP STUFF!

Now, I'm not saying I'm all-knowing but the way I understand it from everything I've read/seen, there's more to it than that.

First, you have the price per barrel (crude) that's been rising like crazy. I believe it stabilized a bit recently though.

Second, you have oil refineries in the U.S. that are working at capacity or being so overwhelmed that they shut down altogether temporarily.

Third, the reason that the refineries are so swamped is because environmental groups are blocking the construction of new refineries or even expansions of old ones. These groups are always pushing for alternative fuel sources - which would be great of course but it's so expensive - and with the majority of cars running on gasoline right now, it's a hard sell to fund the research.

It's a huge nasty circle. And, all the police action/battle/war mess has not helped things.

If this has already been discussed earlier in the thread, my apologies. I admit that I wanted my share of vent time!!

It took me $30.48 today to fill up my car--it was $2.49/gallon. And I drive a small, 4 cyclinder car with a 15 gallon tank. The gas prices are crazy!! Something needs to be done about this, big time.

Get this - yesterday morning at North & Ashland it was $3.06 for premium. Last night, at the same gas station it was $3.19! It's amazing how quickly we get desensitized to gas prices. To think that last Saturday I was complaining about $2.95!

It is $2.69 by my house, or that is what it was last night. It changes everyday. Last time I filled up (last Saturday) it was $2.55. I drive a VW Jetta....took me $36.15 to fill it up.

Gas prices hit 2.69 here in WV and stayed there, but a few places fell a whooping 3 cents this morning.

However, I saw it for 2.59 at a Go Mart three towns over from me a few hours ago.

It's $2.72 in Washington for regular unleaded. and that's in a cheaper end of Renton.

my vehichle doesn't need gasoline to run, and according to the mfg. would run better on Ethanol, but that stuff is unavailbe in my area.

$2.77 here .........i even went as far as submittig my milage reimbursment for work today because my car sucks up gas quick and at that price i want some reimbursment!!!!!!!!!!!!

Only in your neck of the woods gal! I was running lots of errands today so I kept an eye on the gas prices, because I needed gas anyway. By my house, it was $2.69 but at Fort and Sibley it was $2.58. I was glad I waited until I was over that way!

ETA: It still cost me $29.60 to fill up, which about killed me.

It cost me $45.00 to fill up yesterday. It was $2.569/gal. This is in the south where things are supposed to be cheaper.

Oh well I guess I need to drink a few less beers at the bar to compensate for the extra expense.

From the reports that I have been hearing, Prem and Super Prem. arent any better than Reg. Unleaded. Typical brain washing of American people.

The Main reason that gas is going up is lack of refieries. Those that have been dismantled were not replaced

There was a great article in the Kansas City Star @ 2 weeks ago about a refinery in Arkansas City, Ks. Total, a French company dismantled it as opposed selling to keep the profits going up.

A refinery in Coffeville, Ks. sold for 2.5 mill in the Farm Land Bankruptcy, 1 year later it just sold for 400.0 Mil. Begain making money within the year it was reopened.

Ethenol plants are being built and plans on the boards for more in Kansas. But Ethenol is not that less expensive as production is not that large. The only thing with Ethenol is it is from grain that can continually be regrown. Not just depleation until gone.

Prices are not going to go down much.

Only big car I ever owned was a !967 Riv in 1968. Love Hondas on my fourth.

Thank God I only drive 3 1/2 miles a day.
