There is a link to VV. Is Howard Dean , Kerry, Bush Sr. Michael Bloomberg, Giuliani, etc. good enough for you?

www.southernproper.com

Just go there and look up pictues. I know for sure there is a Georgia Senator and others wearing their ties. Thanks for playing.

And there is a difference between being fratty and being preppy. When you think of preppy, you should get an image of some socialite family in Connecticut playing lawn tennis with sweaters and flipped up collars (yes it is actually acceptable in some parts of the country......but Abercrombie and Hollister ruined it.) I am not particularly fond of the preppy style either.
I'm SOOOO confused. Why would someone proclaiming the perfection of Southern fratty-wear cite John Kerry and Howard Dean as examples? I thought the TRUE Southern fratty-gentleman would NEVER associate with anything those liberals were involved with.

Of course the majority of textiles and clothing are now manufactured overseas despite where the raw material is grown. The textile mills are for the most part long gone from Lawrence due to cheap labor in the south and now y'all are getting a taste of this as your factories are shuttered due to low costs of the Pacific Rim.

Actually, the joke's on them. Here in Charleston, the only men you see wearing those ties are the 90-year-old kind who don't know whether they're coming or going.

And no, polo shirts are not supposed to be tight fitting the least bit. Sorry that you are probobly some douchebag from California that thinks shrunken abercrombie shirts are acceptable. I actually do have bow ties. I have some for formal occasions, as well as regular dressy occasions. And yes, I know VV is known for their ties. Thanks. You're an idiot.
Ummm BB is not all dotted, striped or solid. You have no idea what you're talking about. And Hermes is the king of micro designs jagoff.

Let me sum it up for you. Me: Kiton Ties, You: Jerry Garcia Ties.

And nobody said tight but you can't read because where you're from education consists of knowing which pickup your gay pleated "Slate" khakis would look best in.

I live in Atlanta and work at a law firm that's considered to be one of the "fratty" ones. There's 2 people here who wear bow ties. Both are in their 70s.

I said originally that VV and Southern Proper gained notoriety from senators, poiticians, etc. I was called out on it, so I provided examples. Your political affiliation has no bearing on a sense of style. So by your reasoning...if Howard Dean or John Kerry were found to like cheeseburgers and golf.......would that mean that all of us "TRUE Southern-fratty gentleman" would have to give up cheeseburgers and our memberships to country clubs? I am confused as well.

Let's throw some sanity into this conversation.

Plenty of females like bowties. I do. Bowties are cute but I think in certain situations, if they have particularly crazy patterns or colors, they can come to look inappropriate.

I like Vineyard Vines. Indeed, I bought a little VV tie with Robert E. Lees and George Washingtons on it for my ex-boyfriend as his graduation present from W&L. I really want to get myself the VV bag that has those designs on it plus the W&L Trident on it. But... I think that VV became ridiculously trendy and a lot of people jumped on it to be like "OMGZ I'm southern preppy!" Basically, it became silly.

I do like "southern preppy" clothing and I think in many situations it's appropriate and damn sexy. But as Rudey says, there are times when such clothing looks silly and immature. And if you're really a old money, classy gent, you ain't buying ANY brands. You're buying bespoke items and getting your clothing tailor-made. So let's end this argument.

I think it's well established that macallan and co. are just making this all up, right? No real southern fraternity men who have this much to say on the subject of clothing.
