Bryant fined for comments, doubtful for Lakers' opener

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) -- Kobe Bryant was fined Tuesday by the Lakers for critical comments he made of teammate Shaquille O'Neal, and was listed as doubtful for their season opener against Dallas.

Bryant's remarks Monday exposed the degree of rift between the two superstars. The amount of the fine wasn't disclosed.

The Lakers held a 20-minute team meeting in their locker room before their shootaround Tuesday morning. Teammates said Bryant, O'Neal, Karl Malone and coach Phil Jackson were the only ones who spoke.

Bryant played in two exhibition games last week. He was expected to be ready for the season opener Tuesday night, but surprised the organization by telling ESPN a day earlier that he did not expect to play because of pain in his surgically-repaired knee.

Bryant and O'Neal didn't speak to reporters after the shootaround.

I was watching TNT's pre-game show last night and Magic made a very good point. All this Shaq/Kobe mess needs to stay in house. There have always been problems on teams, but they need stop airing their dirty laundry for all to see and observe. Like Magic and a whole of host of others have stated, they don't have to like each other, but they do need to respect one another.

I also like what Kenny Smith had to say as well, in stating that he thinks this is crazy, and they need to just go to one another in the locker and have a sit down.

All I'm saying is that Kobe is going to be the butt of every Charles Barkley joke on the panel this year.

Also they talked to LeBron James last night and I was cracking up when Charles I think asked him if he found the players to being bigger than he thought they would be, and his response was in one of the first games he played he ran into big bodied Karl Malone.

Kobe is all about Kobe. Why in the hayle did he have to come out in the 3rd/4th quarter? Why didn't he come out with the REST of the team at the beginning of the game?

Why was Kobe sooooooooo uncomfortable when Shaq sat next to him on the 'bench'? Why when Shaq went back in the game, Kobe was sooooooo comfortable with Karl?

Clearly, there was tension on that bench. At the end, that "high five" and "slap" Kobe gave Shaq was so fake.

This chit is hilarious, but why do WE have to ack (lol) like that?

Star Jones Creates Payless Shoe Line

NEW YORK - You'll soon be able to walk in Star Jones' shoes.

The Starlet by Star Jones line will be available at Payless ShoeSource stores starting in November, the company announced recently.

Jones, a co-host of ABC's "The View," was named chief of consumer style and spokeswoman for the footwear retailer in 2002. She is a self-proclaimed shoe junkie who claims to have 500 pairs of shoes in her closet.

"We played with the latest trends, colors and styles to create a collection that delivers designer flair at affordable prices," Jones said in a statement.

The line, which ranges from $15.99 to $21.99, includes a strappy dress sandal, a T-strap style, a mule with brocade velvet, a two-piece silhouette with an ankle strap and a strappy slide. The styles will be offered in wine, chocolate brown, forest green, champagne and deep black.

I saw someone with a cute pair on the other day. HOWEVER, is it just me, or does that store NOT have a nice odor?

Arrow P. Diddy Says He's Shocked By Sweatshop Allegations, Vows To Take Action

Sean "P. Diddy" Combs responded Tuesday night to allegations that his Sean John clothing line is produced under sweatshop-like conditions by proclaiming shock and ignorance and vowing to take action.

Earlier in the day, outside a Fifth Avenue storefront in New York where Diddy will soon be opening a Sean John flagship store, Charles Kernaghan, director of the human rights advocacy group National Labor Committee, raised issues about the Honduran supplier Combs employs to create his clothing line.

Among the allegations, revealed in an NLC report, are that workers are subject to daily body searches, 12-hour shifts, contaminated drinking water, pregnancy tests and subsequent firings for positive results, all while earning 24 cents per $50 sweatshirt they sew.

"I'm shocked at this information, particularly because we had no knowledge of any wrongdoing," Diddy said at a press conference. "I am determined to get to the bottom of this. We are launching an investigation into this matter and if there is any proof, any proof of wrongdoing, we will terminate our relationship with this factory immediately. I will not tolerate any violation [of] labor laws at any facility where Sean John is manufactured."

Kernaghan had stated earlier that he didn't want Diddy to pull out of Honduras and leave the workers jobless, but to help upgrade working conditions and defeat the human-rights abuses. He made his allegations alongside 19-year-old former factory worker Lydda Gonzales, who was fired from the factory for trying to organize a union.

Also according to the report, about 80 percent of Southeast Textile's factory production is for Sean John, while the remaining 20 percent is for Damon Dash and Jay-Z's Roc-A-Wear clothing line. Representatives for Roc-A-Wear were not available for comment.

He has seen "The Last of the Mohicans" one too many times. I don't think he has time to read the book....

Is it just me or does it seem like the payless shoes ALWAYS look better (not like a payless shoe) on others feet and not yours?

Not a Payless fan

Despite wonderful Soror Jones' being the "chief of consumer style." Some of them do look plastic-y or man-made-material-y, which isn't great for foot comfort. JMHO.
