I understand the reason for late recruitment. I was just questioning the late date for registration deadline since the actives still need time to learn the pnms, read recs, etc. Of course, if you have done your SEC recruitment homework, you are already registered, recs mailed in, outfits prepared, etc far earlier than the deadline that is posted by Greek Life.

You are absolutely correct gee_ess. When they originally talked about delayed recruitment twenty years ago, I hoped that Ole Miss would select December/January, but the chapters told the powers that be that they could not afford the Fall without the new member (pledge) money. Seems to me like they could have said you have 3 years to get your expenses in line for a Winter recruitment, and then pulled the trigger. Now recruitment is always set for a week without a weekend football game, which means it moves higgledy piggledy from September to October based on what the final football schedule looks like, and it impacts mid-term grades!

When we did it at Arkansas ( i was an advisor then) it was really hard on the actives - who basically quit attending class during recruitment due to the amount of behind the scenes time it took to get things pulled together, vote, etc. PnMs go back to dorms and sleep. Actives vote all night and then set up for the next round, then skip class to sleep and be ready for parties!
I like your idea of Dec/Jan rush and giving houses a time period to prepare.. Sometimes things make so much sense and yet no one who is in the driver's seat can see it! Frustrating!

DeltaBaby is right.
If you pursue this, be very, very open to any house that invites you back. This rush is freshman heavy. Very few upperclassmen get their 1st choice (and by 1st choice, I mean the house who is their 1st choice at round 1). So, while not impossible, it will be very tough. Just be prepared.
But, nothing ventured, nothing gained! Keep us posted on your experience. We will be rooting for you!

Due to high registration numbers, Philanthropy Days have been extended an extra day to include Tuesday the 18th through Thursday the 20th of September.

No number for registered pnms was quoted to me, but I'm told we have been instructed to plan for a new member class of 150.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there going to be at least one new colony this year, too?

I believe they are open for expansion, but have not chosen the organization yet.
ETA. Per Irishpipes thread: Alpha Gamma Delta, Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Phi, Delta Zeta are presenting

We are at Ole Miss right now, getting my daughter settled in and going through orientation. (It's so exciting!!) She mentioned that there is a Panhellenic event on Sunday afternoon. I thought that she said that one of reasons for the event was to assist some of the PNM's who still needed to find recs. (I was kind of sleep deprived when she was talking about it, so I may be mistaken.)
We have her Panhellenic portion of orientation tomorrow, so if they happen to mention any numbers, I'll pass them on. But, if I'm not mistaken, they can still register until August 27th (is that the correct date, Mary Poppins?)...so numbers could still go up.

Your right, registration closes at Noon on the 27th of August. There is an Ice-Cream Social for Potential New Members to meet with the Oxford Area NPC Alumnae. It's Sunday, August 19 at 1:00 pm at The Powerhouse on University Avenue.
Oxford Area NPC invites all the ladies going through Ole Miss recruitment to attend a brief social event to help find sorority alumnae recommendations, get a better understanding of what Greek life means and the benefits of going Greek.

FYI, I mentioned the new colony/colonies for those who may be movers and shakers, but don't get the bid of their choice. Ole Miss is a tough Recruitment!
