I actually had 3 years off between graduating with my B.A. and starting grad school. I also started out part time (working full-time) and then this spring decided to go to school full-time and work part-time. I actually like being in school full-time (with the exception of the lack of income thing!) because I can take all the classes that I need to and also have time to do all the research. Grad school is definitely different from undergrad because obviously more is expected of you (20-30 page full research papers rather than 10-15 pages). I'm also finding that I'm doing a lot more work in the field than I am just in the library. I'm actually getting prepared for work in historic preservation rather than just book learning---if that makes any sense. I guess it always depends on the field that you are going into. HP is about working on saving buildings or just documenting them, setting up interpretive programs, helping cities plan their historic areas, etc. I'm also finding that I'm able to work more closely with professors on research than I could during my undergrad.

Those are just some of my thoughts. Hope they helped a bit!
