According to my self defense professor, a rapist would have already knocked you down and tried to do whatever he pleases by the time you would have dug thru your purse and found your loaded gun and aimed it your rapist's head. This is why it's advised to not carry mace and other "weapons" because you wouldn't have time to search, aim, and fire.
Unless your gun is glued to your hand, a swift kick in any sensitive area will give you more of a chance of escaping.
