Thirteen men participated in the Alpha Phi sixth annual Mr. Phi-nominal competition. Proceeds will benefit the Alpha Phi Foundation, which serves as a funding source for education in women's cardiac health, leadership development and philanthropy.

Staresnick, who will receive $500 for winning the competition, said contestants were judged based on four criteria: a private five-question interview process before the show, a talent competition, a final question each at the end of the show and the recent Penny War. For the Penny War, each contestant had a jar set up in the Atrium to raise money for cardiac care and research.

Allison Greene, one of four vice presidents of Alpha Phi and one of two directors of Alpha Phi philanthropy, said she was pleased that more than 400 students attended the competition. She said the organization's goal for proceeds this year was $4,400 compared to last year's $4,000. They do not know yet how much money Wednesday's event raised.

Greene was pleased the event brought the Ball State community together, she said.

"It wasn't just a greek event -- it was all of Ball State. We were all here together doing something," she said. "We've been planning this since last spring, and it makes you feel good all the hard work is paying off and is going to such a great cause."
