You are referring to "Ivy Acres" that is built near Winston Salem, North Carolina... That project is the brainchild of Dr. Eva L. Evans. There was also a huge sponsorship of the Cleveland Job Corps. Moreover, we took a partnership with the American Red Cross. There are 2 ways that these items are followed: 1) International HQ organized and 2) Chapter organized. The President of the organization can set forth a program like "Ivy Acres". That has to be in the planning at least 10 years before--such as an fundraising an endowment or capital campaign--so called being in the "silent phase" of fundraising--which is what Dr. Evans did. Then when she became president she went into the public phase of fundraising or capital campaign for such an development.

Chapters that have appropriate documentations, such as non profit status, can develop capital campaigns that limit the indebtedness of the International Sorority. As you are aware, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is governed by a constitution, bylaws and have procedures that regulate what we are allowed to do with commercial businesses. The metropolitan Los Angeles Chapter own a house near USC's campus. I think that several other chapters also own property. And as far as major franchises, such as "Ivy Acres", a retirement community, that is an undertaking that several chapters in many regions have vested interests in. I am unable to dictate what the International Program will be for 2006-2010, since I am merely a chapter member...

Why do you ask? Have you been to "Ivy Acres" or made monetary support for it under EAF?
