After Charley, all the towers in the Orlando area were down. My roommate and I don't have a landline so we rely on our cell phones. She has Cingular, I have Sprint, and her boyfriend has Nextel. The day after Charley hit, not one of our cell phones had signal even though we all use different providers. My family was all worried about me because I couldn't get ahold of them. I had to drive over to pay phone (mind you that the lights at all intersections were out so I nearly got killed along the way) so I could call my parents and let me know I was alive.
But, unfortunately, landlines go down a lot after storms too. My co-worker's landline has been out since Charley and Hellsouth still has yet to fix it.
