I think you made the right decision. Unless you are part of the wedding party or immediate immediate family, I think the bride will be so busy and preoccupied with her day that it won't make much difference if you do not go. Plus you have a legit reason to miss, not like you are deciding last minute you just "don't want to go". Good luck with your new position! It sounds exciting.
