I agree with Pinky--that someone didn't think before they asked you that question. I would havetold them I I do not know where my name originates, but since I do know where different parts of my family are from, I would've explained a little bit of that. Then I would have changed the subject (ie. I love to travel there someday...have you ever traveled to _____?)...
ETA: When I said different parts of my family, I meant ancestry as well as location.
