"Can" but don't generally. At least in NJ. Here in NJ even a PBA card will get you out of most tickets. And family members of policeget a special "shield" that says family member on it.

During my EMT certification one cop was relating a story: They were trying to pll this one guy over and he wouldn't stop, so they went on this merry goose chase and even road blocked the road ahead of him. They found out he was a cop also. They let him go. Even after like 3 cities and the state police were involved.

There are no quotas. But it looks like a cop isn't doing his job if he doesn't give out tickets when all the other officers in the department do.

For parking in the wrong zone, first ticket is 5, then 10, then 25, up until the 5th ticket. On your 6th ticket within one academic year, your car gets a boot put on it and you have to pay all your tickets plus a $25 fee. This in spite of the fact that they sold 7,000 commuter decals for what ended up being less than 3000 commuter spots. And parking decal prices went up at the same time. I despise them!!

Well that's not the case in VA. And the wife of an officer that Mr. SSS works with was pulled over recently... and was given a ticket.

Well I got pulled over on my way home from work tonight - - going 21 over -- and *luckily* he didn't give me a ticket. But the officer told me that he could've given me one for $117. I'm luuuuucky.

Will the officer himself get a ticket? Just curious. Here they will let oficers go that are driving drunk . . . although they will usually give thema ride home.

But you wouldn't get that chance as a civilian.

WE actually had some big press flaps about that stuff here.
