More like around 215,000...I don't know how updated or accurate that website really is...
There are also 218 International Chapters.

Definately not to burst anyone's bubble but the KAT site says they have "number more than 170,000" with "more than 120 chapters".

That would only work if you could also get the number of years that a chapter was dormant, so that dormancy could be factored.

Still, I would be really surprised (in a good way!) if this is true.

I'm leaning toward agreeing with my (chapter ) sister. Some chapters are in the 200s (Mississippi State and Ole Miss come to mine) which would raise the average chapter size

Here's some info I found for LAMBDA THETA ALPHA, a Latina sorority.
They have 68 undergraduate chapters (including one in my school).
7 alumnae chapters in Texas, California, Ney York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, and Florida.
4 Graduate chapters in New Jersey, Connecticut, Texas, and Maryland.
The OMEGA chapter is reserved for deceased sisters. I don't know what this entails b/c I don't belong to this organization but I found it interesting.

weird numbers
Those numbers are a little too weird on that second post...
The second post makes no sense...
From what i've heard and have SEEN from the website you provided, there's no one with over 300 chapters right now in terms of fraternities...
Where exactly did you get the numbers that you posted on this board?
The Ariesrising numbers are on the following website which is a CLEAR LINK on the provided Ariesrising that displays most numbers of chapters and initiates:
http://www3.telus.net/ariesrising/numbers.html
That looks like the 1st one and is clearly labeled as updated to July 2004...
OH, and BY THE WAY, EVERY Fraternity has WEAK chapters...
I've seen WEAK TKE Chapters, WEAK SAE Chapters, WEAK Sig Ep Chapters, etc... ANd all 3 of those aformetioned are stong on my campus...
It all depends on the school and the system...
GO BEACH!!!
GO T K E!!! (STILL the LARGEST FRATERNITY IN THE WORLD)...

keep 'em strong
if you have a good chapter adviser, one who will come to most
of the meetings...and
if you have a good board who meets...without exception...each month and has reports from...
chapter president
house manager & house mother, if applicable
chapter treasurer (board the baddies, tho, bill collectors)
rush chairman & pledge trainer
pledge president, if possible and time permits...
Advisers, board members, even old grouches like me...we really
care...and we love our fraternity! We weep when we lose a chapter and have orphaned alumni...we really do.
Help us to keep you a winner! Fraternity is for life.
Do this, and you will win....for the rest of your life!

To confirm KD has over 180,000 members.
We have 487 chartered Alumnae Assoc. Chapters (almost at 500!)
I do believe that we do have 127 active college chapters
and we have 207 chartered chapters.

I don't either. People don't want to talk about retention or lack of same with other groups - it's the elephant in the room.

Sigma Kappa actually publishes our annual report with a lot of this information on the public section of our website. Its not completely up to date but according to the 2002-2003 annual report we have:
108 collegiate chapters
8,335 collegiate members
(which if you do the math means we have an average chapter size of about 77.)
We also have 145 active alumnae chapters and clubs.
As of June 1, 2003, there were 135,862 total members.
Oh and for whoever was asking about retention and gpa, we had an 85% initiation rate and the averge gpa was 3.02.
Now wouldn't it be great if every org released this information?

Sigma Alpha Iota
# of active college chapters: 200ish
# of active alum chapters: about 120
Total # of initiates since 1903: about 100,000
Not sure how many active members; I'll look into that.
