My boyfriend at the time had just signed with his SigEp chapter (at the end of his fourth year of school!) and after going to a few of their events, I started thinking about it. I also really wanted some female friends because at the time all my friends were male and were also CS majors, as was my boyfriend - I wanted to hang out with girls and talk about something besides computers!
My neighbor in the dorms was pledging Gamma Phi that semester, and two other girls on our wing were pledging two different locals. I watched the way the girls were treated - Cassie came home with presents and was always excited about stuff to go to, and the other girls came home, in, shall we say, a less than ladylike condition, and were woken up randomly to go to pledging activities. I was still thinking about pledging one of the locals because at the time they all seemed to be dating SigEps so I thought it'd be easier to get a bid (yeah I don't know
), but then when I was back at school Cassie was one of the first to move into the dorms after me, with her big ol' Gamma Phi sticker on her truck. After she pretty much tackled me, I decided I would rather join a house with somebody I already knew who seemed to enjoy their new member period. I've never regretted my decision, Gamma Phi really was the only house for me on that campus.
