Is there anything that you really want to do? Like see a show, or visit a certain museum? This is important because if you are going to be in the city for just one day, you want to limit the area where you will be traveling. Its best to keep all of your activities within 2 or 3 neighborhoods, otherwise you'll spend hours of your time underground in the subway.
