I find Chapelle marginally funny, he does have his moments. But dude is huge on GC, so can someone please explain to me what I'm missing with this comparison?

Soul Plane is $5.00 per person
Chapelle Show is free if you have cable.

Lawd, I saw it on Saturday (funny day: High Tea with my mom and aunt, then watching a bootleg copy of Soul Plane with my cousins later that night)
My take:
1) It was a little too raunchy for my taste
2) I CANNOT TOLERATE THE LEAD ACTOR'S VOICE!!! He needs a little more BASS
3)Some funny moments (though none really memorable)
4) I'm glad I didn't pay for it (not that I planned on seeing it anyway)
5)"However, the maiden NWA flight does not go smoothly when a white family is mistakenly re-routed onto the plane" ~not true...they were not the reason the flight failed to run smoothly
Oh, and to answer Tony's question: For some reason, I think Dave's show is a little smarter than Soul Plane. Not all of the sketches, but some of them. Also, his comedy is outside of the box. Not the usual hood comedy. OH..and what Laidback said..it's free.

FREE if you have CABLE?
I think we have a criminal amongst us, 'cause cable is NOT free (not at $45/month and up).
Laidbackfella, don't you know it's a federal offense to steal cable TV?
j/k. Anyway...

Question:
Is Soul Plane anything like Airplane! or even Airplane II, b/c a lot of critics have been saying this movie has elements of Airplane! ine it.
Help me out here...

My BF bought the bootleg and I watched it the other night. Monique was definitely in rare form and Snoop was being snoop. It had some funny parts like passing the Popeyes chicken boxes and toilet paper for napkins in the low class section. lol

Matter of semantics.
Because the show is free. You are paying for access to that channel plus more.
So in essence we take that $45.00 per month and divide it by say 60 channels. So that's .75 cents per chanel per month. Take that 75 cents divide it by 30 days(avg) in a month. That's 2.5 cents per day per channel. Take that 2.5 cents and divide it by 24 hours. And that's 0.104166666666666666666666666666667 cents per hour.
I'd still say that's cheaper than a movie.

DO NOT GO SEE VAN HELSING!!!
It was the worst movie I have seen so far this year!! Save your money!! I feel bad for Hugh Jackman....he must have needed money.
**trying to catch my breath after running and flinging**
Now about Soulplane....I will go ONLY if somebody else pays.

What took me by surprise was the black guy from Malcolm in the middle playing a gay role. I am so used to him being so nerdy. I was rolling at their video done to "Survivor". And all that damn lip gloss!

TTT-FYI
I have no plans to see this movie, but here's a little piece on people who are upset about it. Earl Hutchinson is what I'd call a political moderate who has called for personal responsibility. His column has appeared in the Los Angeles Business Journal, the sister newspaper to mine -- ST
SOUL PLANE' IN THE CROSS HAIRS
Campaign against racial stereotyping created.
As seen in our feature story on the upcoming MGM movie "Soul Plane," racial stereotypes are flung fast and free. However, asexemplified in a town meeting Saturday morning in LA's Leimert Park, at the Lucy Florence cafe, the movie has become is a hot button.
At the town meeting, a panel, moderated by Earl Ofari Hutchinson, consisting of actress Anne-Marie Johnson, syndicated columnists Tanya Kersey and Joseph C. Phillips and UR/EURweb's Lee Bailey, discussed the issues raised by the movie.
Not surprisingly some see "Soul Plane" as racially and sexually
offensive. They say it depicts African-Americans as sex-crazed, clowns, buffoons, and incompetents.
"Films such as 'Soul Plane' perpetuate vile, and despicable
racial images," says Hutchinson, President, National Alliance for
Positive Action.
Hutchinson and the National Alliance is spearheading a campaign called "Speak Out Against Racial Stereotyping to MGM!"
To let MGM and Hollywood know how you feel they say: "Write, Fax,
Phone, or Email:

Phone: 310-449-3000
Fax: 310-449-8750

"We call on MGM executives to end racial stereotyping and produce quality films that depict the full range of the African-American experience," says Hutchinson.

I saw this movie a couple of weeks ago on bootleg(it was very clear I might add). I thought it was HELLA funny but some parts were a little bit over the top. In almost if not all movies I have seen Sommore in she play a hoe. But overall I think it was good. Parents don't take ur kids to see it, it has nude parts.

homeboy movie review
I peeped two movies over the weekend:
saw Soul Plane Sunday night .....it was a hot garbage casserole with a stank gravy sauce over the top. Not because it was stereotypical (the set up told you that), but because it was BORING. It had its moments (Monique, mainly). Sommore needs to rethink her roles...her only point in the movie, it seemed, was to get freaked in every class (1st class, coach, ghetto, the cockpit).
I saw Breakin All the Rules? Jamie Foxx/Gabrielle Union. Flick was so stupid, I think I forgot the title. It had potential but the plotline was too convoluted to be a comedy. Woulda GLADLY got up and left the movie but that wouldn't have been nice to do to the person I went with.....but you best believe I thought about that isht long and hard

Only you, Tony; only you!
This is too funny!
Methinks if they had used this line somewhere in the movie, it would have been a heck of a lot funnier!

Review from EUR web
If you still need more convincing about why NOT to go see this movie....
MORRIS O'KELLY: 'Soul Plane' Review
Whenever you review a movie as a journalist,
integrity demands that you actually go see the
movie. Yeah, I know…funny how it works that
way. I have to be honest; it took everything in
me to go see the movie “Soul Plane.”
There was this feeling down in the pit of my
stomach that not only was I going to waste my
money, but my time and subsequent energy
writing a review.
Granted, some might say it’s not fair if you
don’t go to a movie with an open mind, but at the
same time…any prior feelings about Soul Plane
were based squarely on the previews … the unfunny
and bad previews. In my mind, any fiery blaze that
Soul Plane would go down in (metaphorically
speaking) would be squarely the responsibility
of the movie and the people who made it.
So here goes nothing.
